Sanyo 1600 nimh cells.....I must say

after reading numerous postings and articles on nimh batteries producing less "oompff" than nicads, I am thoroughly impressed with what I have experienced with these cells so far. I just got back from my first flight with my Zagi on these new 8 cell 1600 nimh Sanyo packs that eflightpower.com sells for $24.00. First impressions? The duration was phenomenal and the power seemed to be every bit as exuberant as with the original 1700AU nicad pack. However, being that I swapped the original spoon prop for a master airscrew 5.5x4.5, it is hard to actually compare the power of the two packs. I plan on putting the original prop back on and doing a more in depth comparison next flight. Also, it will be interesting to see how performance increases as more cycles are put on this pack. My Zagi already seemed to stay up forever with some throttle management on the first flight with the new pack.

Does anyone know how these batteries compare to the 8 cell 1400AE cells in duration and power? Being that these packs are only $24.00 a pop, I may just have to order another one! To think, I was just about to order another 1700AU cell from Trick R/C for $45.00.. Many thanks to eflightpower.com for putting together a great pack for a fair price!

I'd be curious as to how they compare to Radio Shack 1600 mah nimhs.

Word is that TrickRC is dicontinuing the 1700AU packs in favor of the 1400AEs as they have discovered what many of us know; the 1700AUs are inferior. 1400AEs hold their voltage at a higher amp load than the 1700AUs and are supposed to be good for <25 amps as opposed to the 1700AUs which should be held to <15 amps. Greg or one of our other battery gurus are encouraged to post in support or opposition of this statement.

NiMH packs....The panasonic 1600 and the Sanyo 1600 batteries are about the same and both are better than the RS 1600 batteries in the flying and tests I have run on them.

...i was just looking at my zagi pack that i got with my 'X' kit and the sticker on the front reads 1700AE not AU. is that a misprint or did trick switch from the AU's? whats the difference?, if any. jsut was curious as im trying to find a new home for them being they got replaced with some 800AR's and a 450T!

Being that I am running the stock S400 motor that comes with the Zagi 400X kit, would the increased amp draw of the 1400AEs make a difference in power? I don't know exactly how many amps the stock motor draws, but isn't the stock Trick R/C ESC only rated for 15 amps? Thus, A lower internal resistance battery with a higher amp draw wouldn't make a difference in performance on the stock setup. Are these assumptions correct?

Also, I've been pricing 1400AE packs and it seems that $40.00 is what it would cost me for the pack including shipping. What prices are you guys paying for your packs and from where? Thanks.

They're probably much better than the RS packs. The RS work for me, but some time I should get one of these and compare.

The 1400AE's would stomp all over these and the 1700AU that Trick sells. They're good for 20-30A (similar to 800AR)..

The label says 1700AE, they are actually 1700AU cells. 1700AE's are 2.640" long and weigh 1.68 oz each - that would make your pack at least 5.3" long and 13.5oz! Yours is actually 4" long and 9.5oz (a touch larger and heavier than an 8x800AR pack).

177ichael - Thank you for the kind comments.

We are now stocking the 1400AE packs. The 8 cell packs are $28 with high quality silicone leads.
Shipped, about $33 total.
