Do you have to use a car esc to have reverse?
Thanks

Yes.

You might want to check eBay for a domestic seller that has something similar.

I used a 30A airplane esc until I got my Turnigy from HK.

I got my SD from the USA warehouse.

Sometimes I don't understand why HK USA warehouse has the kits but doesn't have the supporting parts which forces you to order from China.

Because everything that HK ships from China to the USA costs them money until they sell it. Buying direct from HK International costs you money.

CG and ESC

The CG is a very good question. I just got back from rescuing my Swamp-Dawg because it flipped upside down. Wasn't going that fast and wasn't very choppy. It is easy to turn too fast though with those big rudders right in the prop wash. ~Might add some expo to my transmitter.
~Need to look at getting the battery into the Pit and putting everything else under the seats.
Front-to-back CG is an interesting question too, but not an easy adjustment with just the battery.
There is not a lot of gunnel depth, so I wouldn't add any dead weight.

Look at this video, he is on the verge of tipping over. You don't see it until you look for it. He is careful and making gentle turns:
Hobby King Swamp Dawg Air Boat (ARR) (9 min 9 sec)

The car ESC is not a good solution. It only gives maybe 10-25% reverse; barely enough to back you up in open water. (HK-CAR30A can be programmed to 100% reverse)

If you want to get out of the grass or off the bank ... Much better to use two ESC and put them on different channels. Then you can dial in how much reverse you want (or maybe need or maybe need extra in a pinch).

(Using a Spectrum 6XDi transmitter, everything on one stick)

Does anybody know for sure what size the motor shaft is?

People have posted 2.00mm and 2.3mm.
I have plenty of props that will fit it, but would like to put an order in for one before I go home to measure it.

Not trying to be harsh, but if you want convenience buy everything from your LHS. I believe most parts (other than motor/esc/motor mount) is the same as the mini alligator tours made by aquacraft?

No, the Swamp-Dawg and the Mini Alligator are both different. The motor cage for example, is different, though they look similar. I have both, and I have compared, they are not inter-changeable for parts.

Hobbywing Seaking esc's can be programmed to have reverse. At least the 60 amp one can.
