Ha, now that's funny. I've still got a grin on my face. I'm not trying to bash here, but really. I expect more from this site. This is basically a product overview, which is fine since there's not much to to say about a basic radio. But in the minus column, there could have been mention of no memory in this day and age, overpriced for what you get, better alternatives out there. I'm just sayin' is all.

ok in all fairness im sure its a great beginners radio, but the price point is off a bit for that. especially when most beginners today have options like the 6ch hk radios for 48 shipped(56 with second rx!) which is pretty close to this

and as a site to PROMOTE RC i believe that the reveiw should also be a little more impartial

$100 for basic radios dont promote the hobby well, better than the 300 it would cost in the 1990s but still falls short of the strives we have made to make this hobby affordable for all

Thought I wool add that Tower Hobbies is offering 20% off so this would put the Tactic at $80. From the perspective of support, quality and overall design this is still a good radio system. I know fro experience the OEM is tied very closely to the distributor;s desire for quality and companies like hobbico get a great deal of attention to detail so those OEM's can make them more products.

Hobbico Tactic TTX600 2.4GHz is not compatible with Spektrum DSM2 protocol.

The Turnigy/FlySky 9X can use any JR type module(with some mod for newer model), but the channel order is Futaba's(A,E,T,R). JR DSM2 modules are hard to find now.

Guys,

The review is written in a straight forward manner. Tactic is a Hobbico brand, just as Spektrum is a Horizon Hobby brand. Hobbico is one of the monster companies in the RC industry. Futaba is also a Hobbico brand, as you will note if you visit the Hobbico web site.
http://www.hobbico.com/brands.html

There is also a set of Tactic radios for cars. They also have a range of radios on 72 MHz that have been around for a long time.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...VSEARCH=Tactic

This Tactic radio shares the same protocol as the new AnyLink module that can be used with many brands of radios and can be used to fly any of the TX-R planes. Like all 2.4 GHz radios, the Tactic radios and AnyLink module talk to their own brand, Tactic brand receivers. Receivers include a 3 channel, 4 ch, a 6 ch and an integrated micro/servo/ESC offering and a RX/ESC/Gyro package. There are also Tactic brand ESC, switches and other accesories. The receivers are about half the price of the respective Spektrum receivers and lower than Airtroncis and Hitec's receivers.

Unlike Horizon Hobby, Hobbico/Tactic is not offering a full line of radios. They have Futaba for that. Instead, by offering the tactic radios and the AnyLink module, their receivers and TX-R planes can be flown with Tactic radios, Spektrum radios, JR Radios and Futaba Radios too.

For the purposes of this review, this radio would be compared to the Hitec Optic 5 ($89), the Spektrum DX5e ($99) the Futaba 4YF 2.4 GHz ($99). When we look at the price of these brand name entry level radios, the Tactic compares quite favorably with more channels. And it will get the excellent support that Hobbico is know for for its products.

FlySky, Turnigy and the other 9X rebrands may be gaining a following, but they are hardly a "brand name" yet and lack the kind of support one expects from "brand name" products.

You may not care about these things, but this is the basis of how a review is written. I have written reviews and this is how I approach them.

I like what Aeajr is saying. I was looking at HK 4 ch and 6 but they seem so cheaply made compared to the Tactic transmitters. I am starting to get back into this hobby and somewhat niave about the new equipment. My gut feeling is that the Tactic is better made than the Fly Sky transmitters and hence rather spend a few dollars more. I don't want to spend the money for the brand names yet. After all, I am looking at getting the Bixel (Skysurfer) and if I stay in the hobby, I can get a better transmitter later. But I am wavering between the 4 channel or the 6. Is the 6 channel in mode 1? That part is confusing. I live in New Zealand now, an expatriot from the states, and I need mode 1.
