The Geelong ParkFlyers

Hi Guys,

I thought it was about time we started something like what the Melbourne PP guys have, this thread is for the purpose of organising when, where and what we will be flying or driving. And any other banter that comes along the way...

I'll start off by reminding everyone that this Sunday is Boats and Floats day.
I really do wish Sunday was in fact swapped for one of the days earlier this week as it was just gorgeous weather and I was sitting inside working all day.

As for where, I think Ronny said Horse Shoe Bend but I must admit I have not been there, not 100% sure where he is talking about. I assume its along Horse Shoe Bend Rd somewhere. Anyway I am sure someone will point me in the right direction.

I'll bring my Kayack for anyone that stuffs things up.
But it aint me who gets wet... You ditch it, you get it

Here's the location, I'll probably pop down for a few minutes, though the weather is not good for flying :-/..

Forecast 50 to 55 km/h winds is a bit more than challenging... Enough to hover a funjet... ;-) but should make the boats interesting...

Just went down to re-maiden the radian, with new radio... Probably not the smartest thing, doing a maiden in the dark ;-/ a bit chilly though, so came back home after 2 launches.. Not spectacular, but worked ok... Doinked the nose a little when a wire wrapped round the elevator servo... Oops.. But still flies :-)

I went down this arvo as well and got the big heavys out for a fly. 90mm Super Hornet now with crappy retracts ripped out flys a lot better. Ran it on 8s for a flight but ecs and motor came down a bit hot so I'll think i'll keep it at 6s for now. Flew the FJ Ultra and the Habu. The Habu is getting a bit slow now I think I am going to use it's power system in another FunJet for FPV. If I had somewhere for a proper runway I would get the new Habu 32...

Good idea starting this GP thread.

The weather is looking most excellent.
Clear skies and no wind, who would have guessed.

Line em up, lets go......

PS. Boating yesterday was tops, there was 12 boats at the river, 10 on our side, and 2 guys on the other side of the river with what looked to be a Genesis and maybe an outboard hydro. We made faces at them, but i don't think they could tell what we were doing. lol

Okay well that wasn't a very good start, I guess it did get a bit windy... And hence turned people off. I was around at the above mentioned place at about 9am'ish and no one was there.

This morning myself, darren & dave went for a fly at BC. Plus there was this Helicopter guy that was pretty impressive.

Broke my FJ Ultra, silly pissy throw of mine. But at least it didn't bend and warp like a normal FunJet. One nice clean break which is good.

Anyway maybe next time will be better weather.

I popped down at about 10:30, just as everyone had left, but checked the dock first.. no way I was putting the funjet up ;-)

hopefully I can get some nice flights, though the radian isn't as nice flying as it used to be..

Fingers crossed for this weekend, Friday night is Nightflying of course.

Tommyboy,
how on earth did you manage to donk a Radian, lol

Bradley,
your hand launching technique is golden.

Well.. It turns out that if one of the wires stuffed in the plane because you've got 2 speed controllers, and a whole bunch of light wires, gets caught on the elevator servo... Bad things happen.. ;-)

Also managed to break the elevator control horn on the cub while setting it up, and of course none of the 100 or so horns IV egotism fit the servos in them, so have ripped it out to replace ;-)

And to top it all off, my soldering iron bit the dust.. Not happy bout that, have to find a replacement so I can actually wire up the logo..

Be good to see the LOGO going.

How about putting a cover over the servos in the Radian, something like the clear packaging used on screws/nuts/bolts from the hardware shop.?
Surely you have something like that laying around, be easier than redoing the servos in to the tail.

I think ive gone through more soldering irons this year than planes.
The Jaycar units are such good quality.
not.

I got given a Dick Smiths iron way back when - temperature controlled and all.
Hasn't been a problem for years.
