i have gone to using cheap al 12mm boom from ebay and i just cut them

i put a wooden down inside of the for about 2" to keep them from bending at the boom mount.

they are a little thinner but they work well with the wooden dowel.

Oh, and i run my wires outside the booms to speed the repair process up

I'm almost ready to maiden my SCARAB Tricopter, but I cannot get the tail servo working. It's not doing anything.

* I'm using the Paris 4.0 board powered by a UBEC
* The servo is connected to the e3 "port" of the Sirius, same as all 3 ESCs.
* I can arm the board and all engines are working when I move throttle, ELV and AIL
* I can connect the servo directly to the RX and it's working fine
* The GUI config shows a tricopter configuration with 3 engines and one servo.
* In the GUI config, the servo bar moves together with the YAW bar. So the board knows there is a servo and it can 'control' it.
* I did all calibration (1095 - 1500 - 1905, ESC throttle end points)

I must be missing something. It's seems there is no 'power' going to the servo.

Any ideas what's wrong?

you might want to invest in a simulator for your pc/mac which ever you use.

Pays off in the long run if you realy want to learn to fly with confidence, and pay less on crash parts.

from my experience, just learning to fly... it took about a month of me flying like a whimp and crashing from the simplest dumb thumb issues..... I flew small helis like the MCX, MSR and 120SR but nothing bigger or better and I am a proficient fixed wing pilot.

after that month the only crashes I have had since have been prop failures (solved by moving to APCs and not EPPs)

I am sure Ill make a dumb mistake soon and pay for it, but the scarab and other frames are really strong, the only think I seem to break is the booms and a motor mount...

I pulled the wires out of one motor..... that was my worst crash.


Sims are great, but a $100 sim is more than i paid in all my crash repairs (not including the unnecessary upgrades that I did while repairing )

but all the high-end gimbals use vibration isolation or dampening

In went back to the OEM Gopro 3M mount attached directly under the frame. The result is no more gello as well as no props seen in the video.

Maybe Quinton should work on developing isolating boom mount made with rubber for it's Gopro mount.

I've found that firm mounts are better than using soft material to absorb vibrations.

Best bet is to ditch the go-pro and get a ccd based camera for HD recording.

What kind of solder should i use and any specific kind of solder gun? wattage?

I understand you have much more experience, but all high end mounts are isolated from the frame.

The gopro is a nice camera for what it is, are there better waterproof, impact resistant, light, inexpensive wide angle camera?

Is it cinema quality, no...... Does it need to be?

Came across a really strange problem today, i went out for a spot of flying and the #3 motor (Forward Left on X quad) kept on shutting down, lucky for me it was before take off. I did manage to get a short flight in eventually, but as soon as i landed and tried to take off the #3 motor would shut down just before take off and quad would tip over.

I've never seen this before, the motor was not excessively hot, nor was the ESC, so i am counting out thermal shut down.

Anyone else ever had this before?


Also i did a bench test about 20 mins later to see what would happen, and the same happens on the bench, #3 motor shuts down.
This is really bizzare.
