Buying my first RC Plane: GWS Slow Stick. What parts do I want/need?

Hello everyone, glad to have found such a great website with so many avid RC fans. I am returning from a year deployment in Afghanistan and am super excited about buying/building my first real RC Plane. I have decided to go with the GWS Slow Stick. That was the easy part of the decision. But as I've been doing some research I have found that there are about a bazillion different other options for this plane. I've decided to go with the Spektrum Dx6i as my tx, but I still need to decide what other components to buy for it. This is intended to be my "hobby" and so I want to set it up right the first time. I want to buy quality parts. So I know that I am going to need a receiver, servos, esc, battery & charger (i really want to be able to fly for maximum time. I've read some can fly these things for up to 45 minutes), and any other "necessary" parts and pieces required to have a "good time" flying this thing. Feel free to recommend good places to buy/order these parts. I like Tower Hobbies so far. I look forward to your comments and suggestions. This seems like a very great forum for RC fans. Thanks.

Welcome home and a salute to you Sir! Good choices on plane and TX. Standard Hs-55's work great for servos and if you like upgrade gear, check out Gorilla Bob's for cool X mount and Milennium gear http://www.gorillabobsrc.com/catalog...7sn2lt1s0f36r7 . You're going to have a blast with it.

Also, check out this thread with tons of different alterations people have made to theirs http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=407136

Hi

It's the best forum for RC fans

Check out this link which has lots of links where you should find out plenty of helpful info.

It's a good bird which should give you satisfaction from the start. When you want to move on, much of the gear that you buy for it (receiver, servos, battery, charger, speed controller and motor) should go into something more advanced.

Fly it on a calm day first.

And respect to you and all those who are and have been to those places overseas. Nobody would envy what you've all had to do.

Darn, my own search for that thread was utter pants

I fully support the HS-55 choice but I'll bet a pound to a penny that others will disagree
