Fair bit of info in this thread here http://forums.openpilot.org/topic/5592-y4-layout/

But, in a nutshell

Its a minsoo kim 290mm arm kit http://www.kkmulticopter.kr/index.ht...kk&modeb=Frame

The motors are 925 kv flycams, but rctimer 750's would be sweet for this

Front props are 10 by 4.5

Rear props are 8 by 3.8, you could use 10 by 4.5, would just need a bit more width, you could also use 9 by 5 GWS DD props, and just manually compensate for the yaw effect by adjusting the motor angle (27/33 instead of 30/30)

Mat, well done. how would you compare it flight wise to a stock quad?

a quad YAWs like a Tank , this yaws like a Tricopter.

I flew it in blustery conditions, it was very flyable, not quite as solid as my quad(very close), but still needed some tuning

I had a blast flying it, the turns were cool, using a mix of rudder and roll

Inside it is a solid as my quad

Remeber this was my quad i just reconfigured it, so the comparison is using identical components

one of my quads certainly doe NOT yaw like a tank.
this is with no height or position hold. just good trimming

I also noticed that a good small qaud doesn't have to be slow on YAW, my Asctec FunPilot is really fast. I guess it depends on weight and lenght of the booms. But a trikopter has the fastest YAW I've seen so far.

Your video is amazing as the quad stays nice in place and keeps height!

From my heli experience, you're better off with a non-metal gear tail servo. Metal wears out and gets sloppy, but it's very tough during a crash.

Usually a nylon or karbonite type gear train for a rudder is better. Less slop.

I'm using a direct link, so the servo arm directly drives a plastic block the motor is mounted on. Even a small amount of play in the servo can cause excessive vibrations. So far I've found a Tower Pro MG90 is pretty good. A Cronona DS-929MG and even a Hitec HS-65MG were pretty bad.

I think Mat means like a tank as in when a tank turns it does so on the spot via the tracks, not that it yaws slowly

In Matts video it does not stay in 1 spot when he yaws. If you seen that can you tell me at what time cus I dont see it.

Also it does yaw slow. he even said in another thread it was not flyable outside due to the yaw. I would say it has something to do with the small rear props.

Broke 5 props testing

so, quick re-config, mounted both motors, side by side at a 30 deg V, and now its a fun machine ! yaw is very authoritive

Handles the wind, and you fly it like a tricopter, mixing yaw and roll for gracefull forward turns

Attached is the mix, if anyone wants to try
Awesome looks like I can use the CopterControl in my Viper then. nice work Matt! very cool

I was using gyros and mixers for this flight and it was tough lol. CopterControl FC will tame the beast. hehe.

your right and that's why he says its not like a quad which yaws like a tank i.e on one spot his y4 yaws more like steering a car to use the same analogy
