I will probably follow through with my own suggestion of changing the fan and see what happens with the stock motor.

Ok let me start with this. What do you thing about a Mercury Alloy 64mm 4700KV with a 4s nano 2400 nano 40c? I think it will go like a rocket but might be a bit on the heavy side?

As this stinger's owner is a mate of mine, and the same setup i have apart from i run 3s (not for long as 4s 1700mAh Dualsky's the ticket)

This Stinger actually runs a V2 40 amp Dualsky ESC (should be a 60 amp! but no problems yet), E-flite DeltaV 480 4800Kv with modified stock freewing fan intake ring/lip etc. Runtime approx 2.5 - 3 mins. Pics show the rest.

Hobby King Stinger takes of vertically from the ground. (0 min 11 sec)

did the watt test again with the new 2200mah 4s 35c nanotech lipo.
Peak was 909watts and 61amps amp draw..

settled at 770watts and 56 amps.
seems like the battery is actually on the edge.. some 45c or even the 65c ones will be better despite the extra weight..

Those 65c ones are GREAT packs.. I have them on my larger 90mm model and they absolutely rock.

Just for grins..Here's a sample of current Stinger 64 prices...standard shipping to New Hampshire as an example.

Hobby Lobby (Tennessee) - $114.98
Value Hobby (Illinois) - $115.98
Hobby King (USA Warehouse) - $106.62

All fairly close..

I know that Hobby Lobby talks about having MG servos in their Stinger 64....does anyone know if that is true for the other two (HK and Value Hobby) as well?

Thanks,
-mike-

I have to say it wasn't exactly what I was expected...
of course the edf unit sounded better and the take off was easier, but...
the speed wasn't much more than the 3S setup and the landings were more difficult!
I could feel the extra load on air, the plane was heavy in turns and also the flight time decreased (as expected) to 4 mins...

anyway I can say I prefer it on 3S... still plenty of power, easy landings, good flying times
I was planning to order some 4S NanoTechs 65C but now I'm considering to order 3S packs
Has anyone tried those 65C NanoTechs? are they worth a try?
4S on that EDF unit should make the Stinger ballistic, sounds like your batteries were really holding you back. I'm surprised you noticed a big weight difference, my 4S 2.2 packs are only 40g heavier than 3S

Got about 20 flights or so all on 4S.

I have another stock freewing 4700kv motor lying around, so I might just throw it in again for testing purposes

I guess it was the battery not ok...
anyway I already ordered a couple of 4S Nano's 2250mAh 65~130C and hope to get better results

Yes. Haven't measured amps, watts yet but sure its over what that motor is rated for. So far around 8 flights in warm and cold weather and holding up fine. Will see how long it lives.

The HK does NOT have metal gear servos. Black, no name. Seem to be doing OK so far though. The Value Hobby does have MG, and the info about it is a direct quote from Hobby lobby website. Side note, Hobby Lobby has them on clearance. What do you want to bet that Value Hobby bought a bunch of em.
PS...my HK version fan exploded on the first full throttle. Never left my hand. And there were nicks in the foam when new, and spray paint touch ups all over it. If I had to do it again, I'd get Hobby Lobby (1st choice) or Value Hobby (2nd choice, although probably same plane)
