I ran the hobbyking mercury metal 64mm fan on 2200mah four cells. It's a blast to fly but nowhere near 160mph. We even put a Tamjet TJ70 fan unit with a 2500 mah 6 cell into a stinger and that wasn't even close to 160mph...maybe with a 30-40mph tailwind :-)

not calling the guy a lier, but that Stinger didn't look anything close to 160 MPH, but looks can be deceiving. if I didn't know any better, I would have said it was closer to 160 KPH, which is closer to 100 MPH. doppler would prove or disprove that video.

With the stock motor is anything needed to hold the motor in? Or just let the fuselage and wing cutouts hold it in.

glue or silicone will do the job. Velcro might also work well, if it's a tight fit already.

Hi all,

Not sure if we talked about this, but does anyone use any mixing on the stinger?

I don't use any mixing, just a lot of expo.

I have noticed some adverse yaw with the Stinger, so some mixing might not be a bad thing at all. and of course, don't let the Stinger go slow. I think those upturned wing tips are responsible for making it do some nasty things. wonder how that modded wing did on solving that problem?

I dont use any glue, just put the fan unit in and mount the wing. I am using Turnigy 2815 Kv4800 EDF outrunner, ~500 W on 3 cells, and fan stays in there without problem.

Don, I don't want to claim anything here but I am definitely close to 100mph (WOT) with the new 4000 kv, a 50A esc and 1600-2200 4cells. Thanks. I'm running at 2/3 throttle and getting about 5 minutes.
Also does vertical takeoffs with ease. The first couple seconds are exciting til some airflow gets over the controls. Usually involves some low inverted work to get established. Fortunately we have a wide open field!
Thanks again for the motor.

You can get this slower than you would think. I was surprised how it performs low and slow. Not as nice as my 64mm Airfield F18 (w rudder mod) but this one definitely has it on the top end- fast little jet!

I paid a little more than $40 for the fan, motor and ESC, shipped to my door. I will recommend his products to anyone. super nice guy and an awesome product that he stands behind. you can't beat it for the money.

Did it, I agree on all points and I'm thinking in the 100 mph range too. Really goes with this new motor. Thanks for the recommendation.

Nothing needed. The 4 wing screws and the slots top and bottom work fine. I just replaced my motor and it was still nice and tight after many flights. If you are running the stock motor and decide to go with 4 cells you WILL have to replace the motor eventually- it's fun while it lasts! Make sue you get a bigger ESC too 45+amp. Have fun. Great little jet for the $ even with a new $30 motor.
