The problem with what everyone sees here is the lack of defined static. When I encode the video for some reason it blends over the static. So while flying it is pretty easy to see when your signal is about to go. Of course I try to fly through it and that is when you can just about get a complete white out. I guess that is one strength of CP antennas. Since you are not getting drop outs you can still turn around and keep an eye on the faint horizon image.

I think the goggle image is just a little clearer but then again it might be what you guys see here .... when I am flying I am more thinking about keeping the plane in the air. I don't like to use stabilization as I enjoy the challenge of keeping it in the air. So overall the picture is fine for flying. Slap on a HD camera as well and 5.8ghz comes even better.

Damn European weather. Thunderstorms today and it looks like they will hang around for a few days so no real testing for more range until this weather system passes. I have my fingers crossed for one more flight this weekend.

okay I tried but I got wet. It started raining and I had to turn around I had thunder all around me and I got a little scared. I had a much better picture today and could have gone at least another km if the rain didn't set it. 5.9km

another thing I have learnt is that wifi uses 5.2ghz to 5.7ghz here in Euro. this could explain my dropouts. More testing tomorrow to see if wifi is being the pain.

Thanks for that. I have been running my tests on channel 5,705. Middle of the pack as that is what I based my helical on. I am going to try out channel 5 and up tomorrow if the weather is better. I have a feeling that the channels is the main reason for my dropouts. I have noticed that I can have great picture but it can disappear very quickly and that has been happening near towns. So I will start with channel 5 and move on up. I know channel 8 will give the greatest separation but I did build my helical based on channel 1. Now if I was to do it again I know to tune it towards channel 8 next time

These long range tests have only been with the cloverleaf and helical. I haven't been using the spw on the range tests apart from my 3km test. I think I need to select the correct channel for more range. 8km here I come (fingers crossed and holding my thumbs)

I did a little more testing with the 16mW transmitter and i could go a little further with CH8 instead of CH1, even though my CL and SPW are built for CH1.

So i may have here to Wifi problems at my location.

I think the reason is different. The CL and SPW (and I would not be surprised if it's the same with the helical) tend to resonate at higher frequencies than we want them to be on. My measurements with the vector network analyzer clearly indicate this. In other words, little errors seem to sum themselves up with a higher frequency than what one wants. I therefore suggest to try your antennas on channel 8.

Markus

Okay, that could be the main reason. thx Markus

I watched my videos from yesterday.
small quadro copter with 16mW TX:
@CH1 to safe 250m (not much more to go)
@CH8 to safe 350m (i think i could have gone further)

What i found out too yesterday, that the two self built transmitters with the 5823TX module do not perform well.
One does a good job, the other one is only slightly better than the 5813TX module.
Either it is defective or i have made an error during building.
