Couple of nice planes. When do you have the float fly?

The ice on the lake is comming off very early this year. As soon as we get the right direction of wind it will come right off. I think it will be today.

Flying Boot

"Flying Boot"

from FSK ( Flying Styro Kit )

And here`s video, flying from water last weekend........

Flying Boot (3 min 45 sec)

Flying weight is around 320g with 3s 1350mAh Lipo as flown in the vid.
Flying is possible from 2s 500mAh too, but prefered the 3s on that windy day.
Motor is a 1100kv outrunner with a 8 x 5 APC Slowfly prop and an 18A ESC.
Gives lot of power, much more than needed, on the 3s Lipo.
To get the "Boot" out of the water, I modified the sponsons, they were much too high and had a too low angle to the front. Upper front is nearly at the same level, as the leading edge of the lower wing now. Took away the fixed waterrudder and changed to a stearable one with an additional servo in the lower fus.
Sealing the fus was unpossible, so I always had some water in, sometimes lots of, in case of the big hole round the pilot. So I desided to drill two holes, 5mm dia.
, one direktly to the step, one at the rear end of the fus. The water now comes out when starting . This can be seen in the vid at 00.18 - 00.21.

Pby

I just built this PBY. The fuse is all fiberglass and the wings are built up balsa. The wing is a plug in making it easy to transport in my SUV. She is all electric with twin 32 840 kv motors. This a 6 foot wing span.

The lake is still frozen it will be another month. I also am in the middle of building my new CMP Beaver with commander fiberglass scale floats. I also have the Eflite beaver and this one is a little larger and beefier. I will do a review once it is built.

I have a similar PBY from the old Kyosho kit. I found it necessary to add spray rails. Can't help but wonder if this one is from the same fg mold! Tip floats look the same in the ads. Mine is a foam one piece wing with balsa sheeting. Came in three parts. Very nice flier once I ditched the OS .10's and went electric on 4S.

I just took my cub out for the maiden on floats. Didn't go so well. It was doing lots of ground loops and I finally got it up. Came around and the wing clipped on the neighbors shore line and made a little crush in the wing, wasn't bad and the fusealage is fine. The wing bolts sheared after it hit and the little pilot ejected out and ended up about two feet away, he was even screwed in. I dunno?????????????????????????????
