Thanks to all for the compliments.
I used windows movie maker to edit the video and Any-video-converter to shrink it. My DX201 is not working 100%, and the lens used adds vignetting and an ugly shadow, but I have to rip the oracover and the cradle I made for it, so have being procrastinating that.

Alexedit, Eso es lo primero que piensa todo el mundo cuando me ven probando en el campo de vuelo. Buena razon para ni pensarlo yo jejeje.

David, the firmware upgrades are free as it always has being. I will release the RVOSD G5 firmware for old users together with the release of G5 hardware. It is backwards compatible, but the IMU upgrade has to be bought apart.

I must say that was one of the best edited videos as well

really well produced for entertainment value etc.

let alone the actual flight

I just love that video

Have you tried a 8dBi patch? If so what range did you get with that?

Amazing!!!
What a great job you did.
44,2km times 2 is 88,4km, minus the 13,4km where signal was lost, thats 75km
Correct my if I'm wrong, but isn't this a new total distance record?

TK.

Range video solution seems to be better than immersion RC (OSD + LRS).

OSD with IMU allow to go in cloud .......... that wonderfull !

Thanks Alex for this developpement.

I'm sorry? There's no Range Video LRS, and their OSD is indeed different than ours, whether it is better is a matter of perspective, it depends on your needs.

Cheers,

There is really no point of having an annoying line on the horizon for 99% of your flights Besides if you want an imu with your ezosd you can buy the copilot for $70 and fly through clouds if you want.

I keep the line in the horizon because it tells me if the autopilot is going to work when I need it. Remember I am in the process of testing and some things could go wrong. However it can be turned ON-OFF in flight or even select it to show if the autopilot kicks in only. About using FMA copilot flying through clouds... well, it is not a good idea you could figure why if you search about, this is one of the reasons there is RVOSD G5.
But I agree you dont have to fly thru clouds, I did because I trust my equipment, didnt wanted to go back and because wanted to test what could happen inside.
LRS stands for long range system. Pushing the amplified FRsky to 44km certainly makes it suitable to be called that way. I think other 2.4Ghz systems could be used if configured properly. My experience was that beyond 20km the aiming becomes very critical, I also lost control for 3-5seconds. The autopilot kept the plane leveled and that gave me the time to aim better and receiver to re-acquire the signal, without some kind of stabilization this momentary lost of control could be fatal.
The other guys who pushed their RC systems so far were Crist Riggoti, Trappy and Roberto Montiel. Crist didnt posted the video of the flight so we can not know how it was. I do know that trappy used a yagi in his transmitter(EZlink) but even the yagi being so directional the RC link seemed to be solid all the time. Roberto used the Thomas system with stock omni and he said he had to change power levels. But we all test on different take off spots. And transmitters at different altitudes, flying from flat gives some disadvantages due to fresnel zone clearance on the Tx side.
So I think is really hard to make assumptions from the data we have.

Reading about burned boosters on other threads brings another important factor to think about. System reliability, a UHF link is designed from ground to work at the power levels it does and to be an LRS system. So it is more integrated and guaranteed to work. Assembling a 2.4Ghz+booster+antenna increase the chances of making mistakes with antenna coupling, signal levels etc. It works good for me, but it could be no good for others. Well actually I don't know of anybody else except me going beyond 10km with a 2.4Ghz RC.

One thing you can be complitely sure, is that ther is not a best solution in RC LRS and OSD. There are right now 3 LRS proven to be very, very good (DL, EZ and Thomas) and 3-4 more new in the market, but probably very good also. And maybe 5 OSD or more, very popular and very good (EagleTree, EZ, RVOSD, DOSD and Ikarus OSD). You can use any combination of this systems and you will have a winning equipment. Just look at the distances reached by some pilots lately, and you will see they have a different combination of this systems. All of them working perfectly at 30+ km.
