Quadrino V1E + FE GPS overheats BEC during bench-test

I guess the rotor downwash helps the BEC to stay cooler than it would be in a static test.

But still, 140F seems too hot to be "normal"!

Am I the only one whose 5V BEC gets very hot, when the Quadrino+GPS is powered up on the bench?

And does anybody care to guess why the Turnigy BEC get so hot, even though the current draw measures just 0.3A DC; which is far less than the Turnigy's rated 5V/2A capacity?

I use 3A, and 5A BEC's on most of my multirotors!
Never had this problem your having.
Mine never get hot.
I would, may just be a defected one. Have you tryed another or something may be fighting it. Such as two escs' powering at the same time.
There is only a few companies that make ESCs', with bec's that can power the 5.0 volts at the same time!

Alwayscrash , I didn't have nothing to do with that one be designed!
I have the awesome chance to have a little bit of input in the ones tht are not DJI.
I have some other ideals that I am holding on to!
My buddy is thinking about getting a CNC router.
He also is a Master Machineist. He has vowed to help me design an all Doctor Audio frame.
If he gets the one they may sell him at work!

Really, I want to design rotating motor and self folding quad!
There is one for you designers out there.
Lets see what you guys come up with.
All arms have to be able to adjust the angle of attack.
Also at least two arms have to fold to make it more compact.
Like fit in a regular size duffle bag!

Hey Markj99,
The BEC's may get a little warm, 140 degrees seems a bit high. Are you running 3 cell of 4 cell lipo pack? At .3A the 5v power supply would have to get rid of about 3 watts of heat on a 4 cell lipo. Although that math may be wrong if the BEC's have switching regulators in them, I have never tore one apart.
If you are running 4 cell lipo are you sure the esc is rated for 4 cells?
Just my 2 cents.

Just to add one more point, many ESC's which are rated/able to use 3S and 4S allow use of the BEC only on 3S.

Just sayin...

I also agree with this!
Such as most CC ESC's only the ones above 60 amps have BECs for 4S.
And you limited to not using digital servos or it will blow the BEC and down comes what ever it is in!

Hey do you guys still get the blue LED to turn on with the GPS board installed, when you enable acc. It appears to still function but the light does not come on anymore.

Try disabling the board type and only pick the sensors

Is there a link with a list of gestures for the Zoom, like acc trim, gyro recal, and so on? It would be nice for a list.
Thanks All
