26cc zenoah PUM convert to RC version?

hi

can anyone confirm if the marine engines are convertable to RC engines just by changing the crank case flywheel and ignition coils?

the parts look similar and interchangeable but i would like to know for sure.

The marine engines are set up for water cooling and would also need a new air cooled cylinder. A good source for all the parts is www.whobbies.com

I was going to do that to a G260 PUM and was told that I would just need an air cylinder and prop hub.You would have to take off the pull start, but unless you wanted to go with an electronic ignition, you would leave the existing ignition on the engine. http://www.advantagehobby.com/produc...=74943&cat=375

i'm more concerned about the crankshaft, the RC crankshaft is a full circle crankshaft the marine not.
and i'm not sure if it would fit in a "marine" crank case (and vice versa).
....and if it would fit, would it be balanced correctly with the "other" flywheel?

i was told the rc crankshaft is a bit wider, but where exactly i don't know.
is the shaft longer? are the counterweights wider?.....i have no idea....

From what I can find from places that sell the parts the crankcase and crankshaft are the same for a G260 air, marine or heli engine and the crank isn't a full circle crank. In the marine version there was some guys who converted it to a full circle but I think they had to do some work to the crankcase to get some extra clearence for the full circle crank.

There cannot be any need to change clearances to fit a full-circle crank (these are more commonly referred to as "stuffed" cranks) as there must already be room for the part which uses the full diameter already. Check out the engine section of Dave's Motors for more info.

All parts are interchable, but the cost of the parts and time to change one over is not worth the effort. Your better off buying another engine.

The info on Daves Motors also states that a modification to the case has to be done. http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.88...t.A/id.1296/.f Also according to engine builders/modifiers on Jim's Boat Dock, a kit is needed to fit the crank in because of a difference in the shape of the crankshaft.
