The DX7s/DX8 roller has an ENTIRELY different feel than the DX6i's.

On the DX7s/DX8, you should do your rolling on the lower half of the roller, and use the top half to click. This is, IIRC, exactly the opposite of the DX6i.

Good to know Thanks!

Nope, on my DX6i I roll on the bottom half of the wheel and click on the top half. I could be an anomaly though as I bought mine second hand with the upgraded aluminum roller wheel. Perhaps the previous owner flopped things around?

Or maybe I recall incorrectly (why I put IIRC in my reply). I don't have a DX6i around to see.

Andy, thanks for that tip. I found that the roller did work more reliably that way. But I still have a problem. With the transmitter off (so as not to randomly change things), I can roll to the right forever. But when I roll to the left, I come to a hard stop. I cannot get past that point by rolling with my thumb. The only way I can get it to go past this point is to use a fingernail and pull up on the right side of the roller. After I get past this roadblock I can roll it with my thumb again, until it comes to the stop again. From a stop to the next stop is 24 detents. I suspect that is one revolution of the roller.

I can't live with that so I called HH and they agreed to let me return it. But instead of them repairing it and sending it back to me, they agreed to a refund. In it's place I ordered the DX8. In retrospec I should have ordered the DX8 initially. For only $50 more I get the backlit screen, 30 models and one more channel.

Yes, I know the roller will be exactly the same but hopefully it won't have a stop every revolution. And yes, I know I will have to return the 3 receivers, but at this time I don't have any use for them anyway.

The HH tech indicated that the DX8 could only be purchased with the TM1000, at a higher than $50 increase over the DX7s. But the HH website offers the DX8 alone with no add-ons.

Thank you all for you help with this. Hopefully I will not have any problems with the DX8 and I'll have smooth rolling ahead!

As you know from time to time IDRC either.I think its a human trait.Good to know your still with us.

Anyway...so far up to this point intime all DX radios(with a roller) have the same roller configuration. The pivot is on/under the bottom and the actual switch that clicks is under the top of the roller. So you click on the top(where the switch is) and roll on the bottom(where the pivot is).Trying not to click on the bottom is sort of more important. This is what stresses the pivot and as we have all heard can break the pivot/hinge.Kind of like trying to push a door open from the hinge end.Push hard enough and the door might not open. The hinge will just break.Trying to roll on the top isnt so much of a breakage hazard as it is just a nuisance because it clicks too easy while you roll.

Andy got the punch line dead on.

CLICK ON TOP.ROLL ON THE BOTTOM.

All DX radios with a roller(DX6i included) are this way.

The new rubber version also makes it much easy to roll, sort of needs less pressure to prevent slipping.

Be cool if it became an optional part for the other DX8 radios, my DX8 would get that up grade for sure.

Tried Plasti Dip'ing it but the end result was not as sticky as the DX18 rubber.

Freeship, the new rubber version is on the DX7s but not on the DX8?

Or is stock only on the DX18?

A Pro Hobbies has a kit for it. Kind of pricey if you ask me, but it looks really good.

Had the same kit for the DX6i from them when they were called DFXhobbies and the price was worth it for me. (manual and customer service made it all worth it).

Do you have a DX7s with a rubber roller button? Pretty sure it's the same as the DX8.

Looks like the same to me... Even the above picture showing the LCD Backlight shows the Chrome like DX7s/DX8 roller.
