how to tell if a motor can pull a certain plane

Without the help of motocalc, how do you tell if a motor (glow or electric) can pull a certain plane? Would you use static thrust measurements, rpm, etc?

Why make it complicated ? If for some reason you don't want to use the proper tools like MotoCalc just look at what people are currently using in similar size/type planes.

No single measurement will tell you very much.

I own Motocalc and have used it successfully with my electrics. I am now trying out some .049 and .07 glow engines on my 400 models. I guess its just trial and error then.
