JXD Firmware

After being a while annoyed with the standard firmware in the JXD990 i made the following changes to it:

- Setting the TV-IN function as first option in the menu
- Setting the default TV-IN recording resolution to full
- removed the top bar and progress bar and placed the recording indicator, time and percentage at the bottom of the screen.

This is based on the 990C_935B_WK0826 firmware.

If others want this firmware i can put it online for download.

While doing this i discovered how to bring back the TV-IN function of my "bricked" JXD318 that doesn't record anymore after a firmware update, and even get rid of the interlaced pictures when recording in full resolution.

how you did to make it record in deinterlaced mode the JXD318 ?
when i touched JXD318 firmware i was just able to touch xml files,
i even tried to make to record in MJPEG but didn't success.
if you succeed to make it record in progressive mode i would like to know how you do it

looks like we got the same concept of design, i did exactly the same mod to my 318

USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!

Here is how to update:

First check the current firmware in the JXD990 (Settings > System information)

This should be 990C_935B_WK0826 (Do you have an other version please post it before updating)

BACKUP ALL YOUR FILES OF THE JXD as they will be erased !!!!!!!!

Download Firmware + Flashtool

Extract the ZIP file and run FRM.exe from the sub directory

Set the options as shown in the the picture

Browse for the bootcode to Images_RedBoot_201000427.img
Browse for the resource + Bin file to Firmware.img

Now turn off the JXD990
Press and hold the + button
Plug in the USB cable still holding the + button
Wait until DEV0 turns blue and show connected, now release the + button

Check all settings again en press ISP

Wait for the updates to be done (can take a few minutes)
DO NEVER DISCONNECT THE JXD MEANWHILE AS YOU WILL BRICK IT !!!!!!!

When the update is done disconnect the JXD and press the reset button (to get it out of updating mode)

Turn it on, the bootscreen will be shown for a few minutes while the JXD is configuring it self.

Now the new firmware should be ready for use.

You use s(UN)pack tools for editing the XML with the Sunplus 8000 toolkit you can extract parts and compile it again i have used the 990 recording code in the 318 as this has some kind of deinterlacing in full resolution recording.

NO you have a different recording chip, when flashing it you will loose the TV-IN function, i can compile a version for you with the correct chip but i can't test it !!!!!! so it is for your own risk

The firmware included in the ZIP file is this version with the modifications

BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL with flashing when you have other firmware versions, JXD is known for whatever recording chips they can get their hands on to put in the devices for now i know that their at least two of them in the 990 and 318

The major JXD990 problem (that's really affect the visualization and your recordings quality), is the autodim adjustment. It does have a sense when used with the internal camera, but for some exotic reasons the programmers decided to leave this feature enabled with the TV-IN!! So if you're recording anything (this includes .. films) at each brighter scene it step down the brightness; when flying if you have your OSD on (usually white) it makes the whole scenery dark. Looked for a solution by years.. but didn't found any. :\
