Very cool Zagi, in the back of S&E Magazine

On the last page of S&E modeler there is a section called up and out. Featured this month is a pic of a very cool Zagi that features an Aeveox 1010-2y and a 9 cell pack. The stabilizer fins are mounted in close to the motor ala F-15 Tomcat. The owner claims no problem with going vertical. Maybe someone else can post the pic. I wonder if the builder is amongst us...---Rob

If you are the builder please give us a report on how it performs relative to the standard Zagi; what works better (besides looks) and what does not work as well.

I'm not the builder, but I was so imressed with the design that I'm in the process of stripping down my zagi to make some simular modifcations.

Hopefully the builder (Edward Tucker) will be around here someplace and can give us the heads up.

simple google search brought this up.. has a little more info on the builder and his creation.

Um...guys? That's a $150 brushless motor just in case you didn't realize it. And that's without the special controller needed...another $90!

Keep in mind that as you move the stabilizers toward the center, they become much less effective. I'll bet that ship waggles at slower speeds.

What's the big secret here?

Castle Creations sells the combo for only $240

That and a 1010/2Y direct on 9 cells would take a real tiny prop too keep the current low enough for most small cells. On a 5x5 you would be pulling around 30 amps and the thrust would be low. On a 6x4 you can put out the thrust, but at 40 amps. I ran a 1010/2Y briefly on 8 cells and a 5x5 on a Wattage Mirage and it went like stink, but didn't gove real good static thrust although the pitch speed would allow it to be carried through some verticals.

I suppose CP1700's would work ok.

Have fun guys!

Steve
