Right now, I am trying to scratch my itch NACA 0019 root airfoil, NACA 0020 tip airfoil, 45" span, and if you think I am too childish enough to run around the house doing aerobatics with an unfinished wing skeleton, then you are wrong I love the size! It weighs ~<1 ounce as you see it, and that is with half the ribs epoxied in, and a .125 (1/8) near full length carbon fiber spar probonded in. Not too bad, I think. VERY strong, too.

Any of you guys going down to Tucson this weekend for the Tucson Aerobatic Shootout? I think I'll be down there, don't want to miss that.

I found the magic airplane combo!

Add more bluecor, probond, tape and a little magic, and you have yourself a full wing! It turned out very good! A little heavy, but still, I don't think it should be too bad. The full wing weighs six ounces, has a w/s of 45 inches, and a MAC of ~9 inches. In comparison, both of my Tantrum wing panels together weigh four ounces, have a wingspan of 37 inches, and have a MAC of 10 inches. I think that is OK for being such a quick build. FYI, I used Jim's method of wing construction, except I made the bluecor piece vertical and added 4 ribs. Thanks, Jim!

I sure want to get out to the aerobatic shootout. It is pretty famous in the bigger scale genre. I wonder if they would let us fly an electric demo or two Not Man, that has got to be one of my biggest motivations for getting a big (35-40%) Carden Edge. Someone I know does freestyle competitions at stuff like that, it sounds like a blast. I've been practicing stuff like that on Realflight, too. I think I may bring the stereo out next week and do it for real. Would anyone mind that if I kept it semi-quiet?

Dan that wing is sweet!!! I dont know how you do it. Nice job!!.

As far as my "Woody UB" goes, I haven't had much time this week to work on until today. I wound up sheeting the tops of the wings with 1/32 balsa. They seem to be very strong.

Keeping the ailerons even was a challenge. I really need a building board with some pins if I want to keep doing this.
I made my first one and duplicated it with clamps seperated by wax papper.

As she sits in this photo, she is started to get plumpy at 7.2 oz's
I need to make the elevator. reinforce the center, upper wing mount and fit the servo mounts. All the hardware is on the table but I'm really not sure about what motor to put in it. In case anyone is interested in a razor 350, D and D has 2 of them on the shelf. ..

Awesome Kenny! Is that 7.2 oz with the motor? If so, the airframe is a feather! If you need a building board I have some acoustic ceiling tiles that I use. I had to buy a whole box of them so I have a few left. Let me know if they'll work for you and I'll bring you one.

Just in case any of you guys are interested, I've posted my Switchback with Sport and 3D/GT wings for sale in the forum. I would prefer a local sale so I'm posting a link here in case anyone is interested.

Kenny, for having two wings that sounds light to me. What do you think is a realistic AUW. 15-16 oz maybe?

Drivie, I'll give you $20.00 shipped. (a typical unrealistic E-Zone offer). Seriously though it's a nice plane and worth the money. Too bad I already have a couple of them.

Gee thanks... Hehehe!

I would think that Kenny should be able to do around 12 - 14oz on that setup.

One thing that might subtract a slight bit of weight would be to cut out an area below the "canopy" area as a lightening hole.

I dont really know what a realistic weight would be ..

I was hoping around 11-12 like my DandyBack. I probably wont make it though. If you have extra tiles I would love to buy one from you instead of getting a whole package.

Thanks..

Sorry Dan didn't see your post while typing.

I bet just over 12.. I bet the Switchback sells by the end of the night too. Thats really a good deal..

I'll be bringing you a couple of tiles tomorrow morning Kenny. Remind me that they're in the car. (I'm a little slower in the morning)

I went down to the Tuscon Aerobatic Shootout today. Pattern flying...boring But the freestyle competition was awesome. 4 minute routines to music for each contestant. I filmed the whole competition which was about an hour. I'm dumping it into the computer, need to see about hosting it somewhere once I figure out what size the video will be.

Bill:

Dang! We E Zone'ers have to find each other at these events!

I loved the freestyle show, too. Man, those knife's edge moves a few feet off the deck blew my mind.

The heli demo (Chip?) before the freestyle event was most impressive! How the heck do they pull that stuff off without augering in?

I'm looking forward to your video!
