RC group jet's CHIMERA, MAIDEN WAS A SUCCESSES

I was wondering what can be done if we put all the knowledge together on this forum, I know there is a ton of knowledge in here just waiting to be used. So I was thinking if there where any one is interest in making a “RC-group” EDF model where we put our thoughts and ideas together and made a common project. Lets make a super jet together……. Let me know what you think.

Would need strong leadership to prevent "design by committee". Perhaps someone can suggest an outline idea (model type, approx power spec etc) so that we can all rally round a common goal.

It's either that or we set a simple set of ground rules such as "build the wackiest/cleverest jet you can with a 64mm fan, 3s-4s power supply and no more than 2 sheets of depron"

You know we'll never agree on even the color! But it's certainly an interesting idea.

Could you imagine the 'A' Team let loose in an old jet scrapyard ?.......they have to build something to take out some alien invaders.........

No, I can't either.

My idea was that we come op with some ideas and suggestions, as many as possible if you ask me. Then we should discuss the material and come up with some sort of conclusion. If we can’t decide on one model, we have two options. One. We can make more than one model or two we can just drop the idea.

I’m sure a lot of us can learn a lot from a project like this, and I am pretty sure that together we can make a awesome jet. I don’t have any idea how to manage or if there is any need to manage this thread.

I can start by telling you what is important to me (for most I think). It should be something new, nice to look at, stable, good maneuverability, somewhat speedy, large speed range……..

Just some thoughts.

And Steve you can paint it any color you like.

Could be a good idea... Will just have to take care about some traps of too much guys with a lot of knowledge trying to collaborate all together on a single project (we paid a lot to learn about that here in Europe...) : "A camel is a horse designed by a committee" (Marcel DASSAULT).

I like 90mm and I think we're talking sport all the way Kevin. If frank hasn't seen your sport jet, he should check it out. I think it's cool

There aren't too many canard jets out there and deltas have a pretty big speed range.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with a bunch of drawings. I know Kevin has been known to wield a pencil once in a while!

Group Jet

This could certainly bring forth some diverse ideas.

I haven`t been around EDF`s long enough to contribute much, but have been trying to find information on building technoques and using using Depron, which I haven`t laid eyes on yet. As part of that exercise someone suggested I should do a Google search on Steve Shumate designs.

I was surprised at what that turned up - not only some very smart designs, seem mostly pushers but I`ll work on that, and the instruction sheets gave a lot of clues on using Depron.

Most surprising was all this seemed from about 5 or 6 years ago....

Since then a lot more specialised hardware seems to have become more readily available, also many more ARFs, courtesy of HK etc, but I can`t say I have noticed a great leap forward in scratch designs on offer.

Maybe something will come of this....?

This is all I could find. I know there were pics of the construction, but I can't find them.

I've thought about building something that's really aerobatic. A plane that could do good spins and even snap rolls, but I don't know what it would look like yet. I usually draw several planes on a topic and eventually I'll like one more than the others.

^^^^^just like full size designers do. LOL.

yeah Frank, the Rutan ARES is a really cool plane and could be modified to EDF relatively easily. there's a few things I would change here and there, but overall, it's a great planform.

Thanks Steve. Nice work Frank,

This is the most recent version of my sport jet. I am partial to military schemes/styles.

Here is a concept sketch from some years ago of a different project, the LWF (Light Weight Fighter). I was day dreaming that IF I were to the design a fighter to replace the F/A-18 and F-16 what would it look like?
