Great Video,
My dogs love chasing planes too! One also likes tearing them up they land so you have to pick them up quick!

Could I use your video on our website?

My friends dog used to do that as well, but now it's trained to just to point out the plane once landed

You can use the video on your site.

OK finally got some stick time on my mini, LOADS of fun should have had more room to fly it in though. Just flew it in front of my house, and with the wind made it interesting and proved the things durability. Countless times it went straight nose in to the pavement. The neighbor's kids were watching and laughing, saying do that again! in reference to my crashing.

All in all, so glad I got one, tomorrow I'll take it to a field to fly and this time keep it in the air

I just lost the prop from my larger Popwing. The instructions say "7050 or 6050". I assume that this is a 7X5 or 6X5. I was very happy with the stock prop. Can someone check what is on from the factory. I assume that it should be a slow flier prop, but cannot remember if it was.
Thanks
Vito

We have tried different props with this and APC 7x5 or 7x6 pusher is the best. It's much better than the stock propellor (more power). Stock is a normal propellor and with a pusher prop you can get "normal" torque, like with tractor propellors in front of the plane. Othervise you can use standard 7x5 as well. The motor can still take 8x6 (max. 15 s burts), but it's already insanely fast with a 7x5 APC.

Finally got around to the build, not to sure it qualifies as a build. A little glue, mount electronics and battery. Thats about it. I will give update after the maiden.

Fuselage length: 575mm (22.6in.)
Wingspan: 900mm (35.4in.)
Flying Weight:300--350g (with battery)
The Budget Motor: T2208 KV 1370 can be used
ESC: 15-20 Amp
Propeller: 7050E
Servo: 8-9g micro servo * 2pcs
Radio: 4/more channel
Battery: 11.1V 800-1200mAh Li-po 20C min

Maiden Flight report: Only one issue which is typical, CG. Instructions give a wide range of batteries, 3s 800-1200mah. This led me to believe that CG would have been a lot easier to obtain. I started off with the 800mah with weight of 71grams and went up to 1150mah with weight of 88grams.
Both of these combinations resulted in tail heavy wing. I had to put 1 ounce of lead in the battery tray to make this flyable. So if you don't want to add weight up front buy very heavy batteries.
Once CG was obtained I have to report it fly's very well. High rates produced a nicely acrobatic wing. It is quick with the stock setup listed above, not fast but quick.
This is all I have at the moment. This is just my experience on the maiden.

Popwing

Just received my Popwing. Can't wait to get it flying. Will use a Dualsky setup left over from one of my Yardbird F22 birds. Should be more than enough power with 1300mah 3S.

Has anyone tried to put landing gear on the bigger Popwing? Thinking about a little extra foam skid on the centerline or perhaps out on the wingtips. Also what seems to be a good glue to use on this foam?

Thanks.

No LG. Weders glue, CA, and hot glue are good to use.

I too will try a different motor. I'm going to try the motrofly 2208 1800kv. Being lighter 30grams, should alow me to take out the ounce 1/2 weight that I had to use for CG. My batteries are lite so a liter motor should help. I'm not going for a lot of speed. If I don't like it then it will get a hotter setup.

Hi Wantofly,

I'm interested to know how's your CG, mine came out to be way too tail heavy with stock motor + 12A ESC, so 10g added @ nose on 1600mah 3s .

Edwin, thats correct, instruction are wrong. Or the included motor is too heavy. I'm thinking the motor combo was for us in the states, bigger is better, more power.. one way or the other the combo results in a tail heavy wing.
None the less once balanced it fly's 'ok'.
I'm currently waiting on another motor. Gonna try a light setup. 30 gm motor with 3s 800mah.
I have looked at the specks on the tiger 2208 1370kv and it could easily swing a 8" prop. My motor doesn't even get warm with the 7x5. However the prop area is too small for the 8.
I'll update how the lite setup works or doesn't.

Hi Wantofly,

Thks for reply. Imo don't waste your time and money on 3s 800, you need at least 1300 3s + some weigh @ nose to get the CG right. I've tried BW 28g 1300kv but no luck still way too heavy on the tail.

Edwin.K

Hi Wantofly,

I like glider & floater, so normally I just wot as high as possible, off my power thermal a bit then slowly glide down. 20s mins is easily achieved on 1600 3s, but I still wish I could build it much lighter with below 1600 3s and w/o any dead weigh @ nose . Pls tell me if you happened to balance this wing with much lighter lipo. Thks

Regards,
Edwin.K
