Here's what I have on hand that I plan to install into mine:

http://www.headsuprc.com/servlet/the...lectric/Detail

37oz. of thrust (AUW of plane will be about 29-30oz) at 20a should wake this plane up and make it dependable...

Hi

With the 2200 3s 25C pack I get the balance not okay at 90mm
I again did check the manual of the SU-26m which has a very simular wing (shape and size).
Cord of Extra-260 is 275mm and the SU-26m is 280mm.
They mention in the SU-26m manual between 89mm and 99mm.

So if I would be very precise the 1/3cord at the Extra-260 is 91.5mm
Maybe the 91.5 = very save and then more backwards like 10mm = more for 3D

If I pick 95mm at the Extra-260 the balance is good.
During flight I will notice if that is workable and okay

alternative setup

Hi

Motor:
I am not sure how long the motor will hold. The magnets do not seem to be very strong.
But in case of replacements I have this list of options.
Not sure...if they all fits.

Simprop MagicTorque 30-09 (105gram)
great with 12x6 prop. Pulls static 25-26amps
(I use this one in the SU-26 and it is only Euro 36 and equal to any Axi motor)

This one of HC
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14396
(Maybe a good match???)

Or this one
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7074

Or this one
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=17396
(just ordered it)

In general a rule for brushless is to have a motor that is at least 10% of the planes total weight.
So in case of Extra-260 minimal an 80gram motor and I would say...between 90grams and 110grams.
Also between 900rpm/v (12x6 prop) and 1100rpm/v (10x5 / 11x5.5 prop)

Servos:
As servo alternatives I would useL
Hitec HS-65hb or these of HC:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idproduct=5193

But...first flying. But it would not suprice me if this is an awesome fun plane.
I have very good expierences with EPO planes. The MP Funjet is on of my favourite planes to fly.

Okay.. my 2cent on this subject

Well , Tested motor again this morning, first battery, still up in the high 27 A range, changed to another battery, still high, 27-28 , then motor starts to drag, and slow down, and then,it let the smoke out of it, and it is DOA.
After looking at it , I think the outrunner shell was rubbing on the back of the motor all along.
replaced it with a motor from a HK biplane, and have 26 OZ thrust @ 17 A.
So check your motors to make sure they are not rubbing

cool, thanks for the heads up nova.. i think i might be having the same problem.

I've ordered a replacement engine just in case. I'm going with: NTM Series 35-36A 910Kv / 350W
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=14847

seems like these NTM's are replacing the turnigy SK product line. i have a feeling the NTM's are from the HK owned factory.

haven't used one yet, although i do have a bigger one as a spare engine for my sky walker.. hope they are good...

Damn, I was afraid of this, why don't these guys learn to not just put a big eniough motor, ESC and servos to BARELY get by.....I'm sure we all would happily pay a extra 50 bucks to get electronics that are a better match for the plane and would hold up and do what we expect them to do, I know I would.....It's just a waste to get a P-N-P plane if you end up replacing everything anyway, too bad they don't offer it without electronics.....I really like the plane itself, so now I have to order all new stuff if I decide to get it.....How does the ESC look, up to the task of a bigger motor or does it need to be replaced also?

the ESC looks ok so far. its a yellow shrink wrap with no brands attached (not sure who makes it, but i imagine its fairly basic). to be honest i actually ordered one of those new Turnigy dlux HK ESC's in 40a just in case the new motor needs something bigger. given the plane lands well on a dead stick I'll probably run it with stock esc until (if) it fails.. having said that i will also watt meter it to check how many amps the new motor pulls

A 35-36 is going to be quite a bit heavier motor, but if you're not trying to build it light for 3D it should really wake this thing up!

yeah, i know what you mean. i have actually ordered this one as well..

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7872

its 37grams lighter, so if i'm not happy with the big bad boy, i can always switch. To be honest my 3D skills are going no where fast and i'm not putting in the effort on improving them at the moment, so i'll try the heavier motor first and stick to acrobatics for a while..

yeah, reviews don't look so good, but for the price I thought I'd take the risk. personally I haven't had a bad SK yet. hopefully this wont change that past ;-)

I tend to stick to turnigy, SK and now NTM.

although I'm sure I'd get better quality out of the more expensive ones like the scorpion, because i haven't had any failures, I'm staying the course (for now..)..
