Sapac MB-1 Motor and fan combo mounting

How do you guys mount the fan in a foamie? Do you just epoxy it in? Also it has no lip on it, do i need to fabricate one or just roll with it?
Thanks
Jimmy

Most foamys have a cover that screws down to clamp the housing. If you use glue you'll have a hard time removing the fan when the motor burns up.
For a foamy fan try tub and tile silicone, not a lot just enough. I do dots and stuff the housing in to squeeze it. A gentile constant tug gets it out. Silicone also help with blocking noise transfer.

I used hot glue on my T-50's. Only on one side. If I need to take it out I use lighter fluid to break the hot glue loose. I takes about 5 to 10 minutes to break the bond enought to pull it out.

As fas as no ring I guess it depends on the jet & what's molded into the foam. The MB-1 mounts just perfect in the T-50.

Interesting, my MB-1 was received with 4 lips in an "X" pattern. I just cut slits into the foam where the lips met foam. I also cut off the front intake ring so I was able to mount it without digging the foam out to make room for the ring.

That would be the part where the air comes out and you typically want it pointing towards the rear of the plane.

Usually I will epoxy hardwood or plywood rails to the airframe. This makes the fan easily removable. If the fan does not have mtg tabs, make some.

Other times (as in the last pic) I will attach the fan with RTV silicone adhesive at three points. removal is easy with one slice with a knive at the joints.
This method is supporting a fan with 6.5lbs thrust.

Hope that helps.

In a SAPAC fan, yes.

I would highly recommend low timing (mid timing at the most). With low timing, the motor will stay much cooler and draw less amps. The increase in timing won't be worth the extra heat, amp draw, and power production. Also, the Hobbywing (and every vendor that carries Hobbywing ESC's under a different name such as Turnigy Plush) ESC's tend to stutter on 5S with low timing (so high timing must be used on 5S, but that causes high amp draw and heat). However, on 4S, all timing settings seem to work fine for me.

When going 5S with this motor, low timing seems to work fine on Castle ESC's.
