DLE 20cc VS DLE 30CC Performance/Weight
Ok, I already have a DLE 30cc for a ESM 71in Corsair that Im wateing to build
Im building a CMP/Nitroplanes 90 Spitfire, Wich really needs a 1.40-1.50 4 stroke (factory clames it needs a 1.08 2c or 1.20 4c) as it needs a ton of weight up front for CG. My os 1.20 ax 2 stroke is going to need almost 2 - 1 1/2 pounds of weight added up front.
So Im looking for a Gas motor for this bird and my 30cc would fit with no issue. But it seems like performance wise the 30cc would be a little to much motor? But if so it would give me a reson to upgread my 540T Edge to a larger size.
DLE 20cc $244
Weight Engine - 23.03oz(660g), Exhaust - 1.8oz(51g), Ignition - 3.8oz(108g), Plug - .5oz(14g), Wires - .3oz(8.5g), Total - 29.7oz(820g)
Acceptable Props: 14x10, 15x8, 16x6, 17x6, 18x6
Static Thrust 13.26 pounds
DLE 30cc $259
Engine - 909grams Exhaust - 60g Ignition - Exhaust 56g Total 1025 grams
Acceptable Props: 18×8, 18×10, 19×8, 20×10
Static Thrust 18.75 pounds
So the only diffrance is $16 and 205 grams, The DLE 20 is a little smaller and has standard nitro mount style, and is a single bolt for prop.
SO What do you guys think?
Anyone ever have both? How strong is the DLE 20? I dont hear much about it.

10 lb plane?? It depends on how you like to fly. The DLE-20 would fly fine in a sporty scale manner. If you like to go straight up like a bottle rocket, put in the DLE-30

Ya it will be around 10pounds.
I was thinking of putting a OS 1.60 2 stroke in it but I like the fuel of the DLE. I was hopping to make it fast. Since you don't really hover a war bird.
But I have been told gas ant fast. Lol
But if the DLE 20 can do a 14x10 that's should have some speed right?

plenty of videos on youtube of theDLE 20 with various props. None of the planes are slow.
Also the DLE30 is going to be way too big to fit in your warbird. The DLE 20 is more than adequate and at 10lbs I think you will have plenty of vertical since thrust t weight exceeds 1.

I have both, and the DLE 20 is a POWER house. Pulls harder than a OS 1.20 AX or ANY other commonly found 20cc gas engine on the market.
With a 17x8 APC you can expect 14 1/2 lb of thrust.
APC Sport 16x7 9000 RPM 14lbs. 7oz.
JXF Beech 16x8 8300 13lbs. 10oz.
JXF Beech 17x7 7970 13lbs. 12oz.
SY 16x8 8500 13lbs. 5oz.
SY 17x8N 8200 14lbs. 9oz.
Xoar 17x6 - Hands down the best prop so far. Great punch out of hover, great top end

See I hear what your saying, but this is the Thrust info I found on a OS 1.20 AX 2c on its review page on this site.
RPM & Static Thrust
PROP WOT RPM STATIC THRUST (calculated) What ever that means?
APC 15X10 9360 13.26 lbs
Zinger 15X6-10 9380 12.57 lbs
APC 16X8 8790 15.11 lbs.
APC 16X10 8280 13.44 lbs.
MA 16X6 9120 15.38 lbs.
I know the os 1.20ax is a upgread that fits in a 90 mount/plane with no issue. And going from the 1.20ax to the 1.60 2c is huge in weight, I think its around 500grams diff.
But going from a 20cc to a 30cc DLE is only 200grams, and not all of the weight is in the nose,as the ignition module can be moved around for CG vs a (Big Block 1.60)

Do you need 20 lbs of thrust in a 10-11 lb war bird? If so, cram it :-)
I have the dle20 in a 12 lb 60 size p-47 and couldn't happier with the power.
