That was nac's idea. I heard a funny noise whilst flying and wondered what he was doing and then realised he had kicked his MXS into position so he could fit it in the frame. I just swapped the video's thumbnail over to use the framegrab you posted .

I have some bad news on the Turnigy L3015.

After only a dozen or so flights the motor has died. Bearing is noisy and the cross mount has cracked at a weak point where the screw holes are.

So I have now fitted an SK3542-1000, should be much better.

The Hacker A30-12L V2 (1000 kv, 144 grams) looks like a nice candidate for those who are happy to spend a bit more.

WOW, Groovejet was right this motor is a really good match!

After mucking around with the smaller L3 motor and props, struggling to get the thrust and speed that this fantastic foamy needs, the SK motor with a 12x6e prop rocks! It really transforms it from a slow floaty foamy to an almost Balsa performing 3D plane.

I flew two 2200 25c packs, 6min hardish flying on both, the motor, 40A plush ESC and lipos came down only warm. Put back around 1500mA!

Don't be afraid to try a larger motor, as the airframe can easily handle it. This SK motor complete with prop adapter and cross mount weighs 170g, but I had no problems getting it to balance. I have the lipo so the back lines up with the brace.

I don't think so. Look for something that will give you around 2kg thrust.

Perhaps the SII-3020-890 with a 13x6.5e prop on 3S. Or SII-3014-1040 with a 12x6e on 3S.

Yep I Agree.

If I didn't have a few of those SK motors lying around, I would buy a Scorpion for sure. I have them on my Balsa's, excellent motors!

unvlace, as nac said, the 3008-1090 does not have enough power. It's a good choice for a Skywing 42" Sbach though.

A cheap and easy option is to get a Turnigy 3542SK 1000kV motor which screws right on.

If you choose to go for a Scorpion 3014 or 3020 motor you'll need to dremmel the hole on the wood motor mount to make it bigger so the large Scorpion motor shaft collar will fit through. A 3014-1040 on an APC 12x6 would get hot if you flew hard, whereas a 3020-890 on an APC 13x6.5 would not. I currently have a 3020-890 and APC 13x6.5e on my MXS and I like it. It's about 15g heavier than the Turngiy 3542SK 1000kV I used to have on it when both videos were filmed.

So now that I know which motor to bu, the question for me is, wait for the Skywing to be restocked or go for the E-flite Carbon-Z. Can't afford both right now. Decisions, decisions......

almost finished with mine. I'm afraid I'll have to add some spacers behind the motor to get it to stick far enuff thru the nose to get a prop on it, also added some depron wheelpants to dress it up

Nice wheelpants! Now you only need to add a spinner to make the plane complete.
