Trex600 gear from HK on my inverto-copter.

Prop to gear clearance is only like 8mm, makes for some mean sounds while flying. Its also nice and bouncy on landings.

I have glued together a similar contraption and I use prop saver rubber bands to dampen and keep the rods in place .

This is my new quad I'm building..
I like to build my own retracts instead of buying them..
This is what I came up with.. lots of thinking and testing.. It was not easy to have an working unit the way I wanted..
Here are some pictures and a couple of videos that show how I built them.. It doesn't show on the videos but I had to add some springs to help the retracts to fully retract..
Also it uses some modified small blue servos from HK (HTX900 I think they are called) to spin faster.. I removed 2 gears.. but of course then I had problems with their power.. I should have got some more powerfull servos but couldn't really afford them. Maybe with another servos I wouldn't need the springs
will see how they behave over time..

Because I programmed it like that.. looks a bit more real..
I don't know about other radios but the 9x tx with the er9x firmware can do a delay function. among other cool stuff

As we would say in the States, that's a fine piece of German engineering!

nah..
in the rest of the world american engineering is seen as.
big, loud, bigger, louder, with a lack of cutting edge design, and engines are indestructible..

(talking about cars though..)

Well, that would be true if I was German. But I'm not. I'm Portuguese.. I just happen to live in Germany at the time

But the retracts still have to pass the big test.. a few landings.. don't forget that the most of them is made out of wood.. And it was difficult to make them close completly with those small and not powerfull servos.. specially when you remove 2 gears
The quad is nearly ready. I hope to have a flying video soon.. if it flies

Little update..

The 3 LEDs will turn on if the retract is locked on the up position and the servo is not stalled.. Like this I will know from a distance that everything is ok...
Don't want stalled servos putting a big load on the BEC / ESC

Quad Update.. Nearly ready (1 min 1 sec)
