PowerLab8 - Charge by Specified Ah?

Hi - Is it possible to program a PL8 to charge a cell by a certain amount of Ah and then terminate?

Regards, MW.

Not that I know of. The closest thing you can do is set the termination voltage to a lower value so the pack is only charged to 90%, 80%, or whatever you desire. Mind sharing the application with us so we can think of another way to solve the problem or see if this would be a good feature to request?

Hi SteveM732 - I am using the PL8 to investigate some large format LiFePO4 cells (3.2V 160Ah) in my EV (evalbum.com/2092). I had driven my EV till my 'fuel meter' was saying it was getting empty and wondered how much more charge they had. So I used the PL8 to discharge the cell fully (down to 2.6V) at 20A rate and was surprised to find there was still 33Ah left. So now I need to charge it back up again to roughly where it was so I can use the main charger to charge the whole pack together again. Hence the need to put back the 33Ah only.

But I'll probably just charge the pack as is and then top the one cell up to the others.

If you can answer my other question tho (posted separately), that is a bit more serious as I can't get the cell to charge at all due to a "Safety Code 52 - Low volt (Replace bad pack)" error I'm getting. I assume there is a setting somewhere which I haven't done right... MW.

What you could do is charge at a constant current and manually stop the charge when you reach 33Ah. If you can charge at 10A then check the charge amount at the 3 hour point then every few minutes as needed till it reaches 33Ah. Not ideal, but not too bad since you're only going to do this once.
