Firefox 200 with Walkera V370 Flybarless Fixed Pitch head
I liked the idea when some months before i've read this thread
and also this
So i decided to give it a go and ordered the V370 head parts, the months passed as i was busy with my 4#6S and her mods.
On Friday, April 8, i received my Firefox 200 kit from HK and after reading this thread http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1367446 finally i decided to keep my 250 clone for later and use the FF200 for this build.
The result is success for now, it hovers nicely in my small room.

10) 250 canopy from my 250 kit.
The V370 main shaft is 3mm and so is the FF200 main shaft, so it was a direct match, but it is some millimeters longer and the swashplate was positioned a little higher and the autorotation pin wouldnt position ok and leave the swash move freely up/down.
I dont have the needed tools to drill precisely for the jesus pin, so i rejected the idea to cut down the main shaft.
I used two longer link rods from 250 clone ball linkage set, the long ones that are used for the left side servo, and used the plastic link balls from V370, screwd easily.
The positioning of the servos was a pain, not that the frame had to be trimmed alittle to fit them, but the RX is 3axis, so i had to find first the direction the servo arms will travel.
Reversing a channel would work with the TX, but the 3axis will turn the servos as they should be on a 4#6S.
I binded with the TX as if it was my 4#6S. The only combination i found working is both servos to be placed at the left front side. You can see it clearly at the photos.
Initialy i used the UFLY blades unchanged, the heli was spinning CCW although i was giving full right rudder. So i decided to cut them down to the size of the stock FF200 CP blades. No success.
I added tape to widen the tail blades but the change was little.
Then i remembered that in this thread http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=255024 HELIHANKSTER had trimmed the big FP blades to the 250 blades shape. I did the same and the result was very good but again on punch the tail was not holding ok.
So i used a pair of 450 tail blades, shortened them alittle and filed them so they can fit in the tail blades holders.
Total success, the tail is rock solid.
Ofcourse the taller CB180 skids provide the needed clearance for these longer tail blades, with the FF200 skids it would be impossible to use so long tail baldes.
With a Turnigy nanotech 7.4V 460mah the hovering time is 5+ minutes.
I used also a 1000mah 7.4V and hovered easily for 9 minutes,it should be 10+ cause i used that battery for testing before, so it was not full..
After some hovering tests i discovered that the head is not tight on the main shaft cause the hole is bigger than the jesus pin, so i have to enlage the hole of the head and put a bolt there.
Rebuilt the heli after a crash. Changed belt, boom and tail box that exploded in the first test after the rebuild.
Trimmed the frame and installed HXT900 9g servos, the 4.3g servos both stripped their gears, FBL proved a hard work for them. The HXT900 servos needed different placement than the 4.3g ones.
Also used a 450 plastic canopy after i trimmed and shaped it. The canopy mounts were broken when the heli crashed so the 250 canopy couldnt be placed anymore, drilled the frame and used a 1.5mm carbon rod for canopy mount.
The tail blades are now from CB180Z, perfect.
Hovering time in my living room with the 7.4V 1000mah 20C battery 10 1/2 minutes.
With 7.4V 850mah 25-40C nanotechs that i'm breaking in now with short flights should be around 9 minutes.
The motor runs cool, the ESC is warm and the battery also.
The V370D01 head costs half or less than a CB180 head.
The TRex head has everything to be converted to FBL but these Walkera heads are simple and robust.
I suppose it will propably be the same diameter as V370D01's, 3mm.
Do I see correctly that the battery has a JST connector but the heli has a Deans?
On the 250 i use the 4F200 tail servo.
Both digital ofcourse.
For the cyclics i use standard analog HXT900 servos. I still cannot tell if they are the recommended for FBL use, because as you can understand the FBL cyclic servos work and move every single second. With flybared heads the cyclic servos move only when we give cyclics.
It is sure that the 4.3gr Hextroniks are not, they all stripped their gears.
Yes the ESC has deans connector, i had it prepared for different heli and battery. But i made an adaptor from deans to JST and i can use both types of batteries.
If you check this photo carefully you'll see it connected on the battery.
The 250 i bought it from ebay but parts can come from hobbyking or others with 250 T-Rex and clone parts.
The head and receivers are from Walkera so from online shops with Walkera parts. Also from local shops that sell rebranded Walkeras such as Helimax etc.
