I just ordered six.

Man - with all the interest in Alulas, we ought to have an Alula-fest somewhere sometime. No doubt an Alulafest will just popup spontaneously at the Sod Farm most Saturdays from now on.

I quit trying to catch my Alula on the wing for now. I put too many dints in it with fumbled catches; it's the nose or nothing for me.

My new Alula from Lee came with the wings hot glued. After the Extreme Wing build the plane's AUW is about 200 grams; about 15 - 20 grams over not having the wing hot glued. The sucker is sturdy though, and flys great; it's really stiff. I have way better control with it than my old Alula. The gordo Alula launches higher and flies faster. The lighter Alula is harder to trim. From talking around, new Alulas tend to fly well, then degrade over time. It may be that my old Alula is showing it's age. I still like to fly it though.

Just sayen.

If anyone is thinking about hot gluing the Alula wing, I have a couple of comments. Adrian - the Alula master - doesn't recommend it. But if you decide to, I would suggest only spot gluing a spot near the LE and a spot by the TE; I think that will increase the stiffness over just having tape, and keep the weight down.

Flipping Birds sounds fun to me. A couple of weeks ago I flipped with Jim and Jake. Had some good ones out over the fields at the edge of the sod farm but I think the wind was pushing the thermals a bit to hard for super flippin long flips.

Also, if you want the best servos for the Alula, use HS5045. Impossible to strip, small and light. A bit more expensive $25, but not stripping gears is a BIG benefit. Besides, the RX now comes in at around $10 instead of 50 (orange rx) so you can spend more on the servos!

You can get the HS5045s$25 a peace. On line they are a little cheaper, but by the time you pay for shipping, you won't save much. Then again, when you factor in gas, you might save money but not time. I have the 5045s in my new Alula and I really like them.
