Can they fly poorly in a gale?

I'm not in Utah but this might be the best forum to post my question. I'm an avid hiker, mountain climber and was thinking of something I could keep with me most of the time. My main is a CR Renegade clone but I don't want to carry it all the time when chances are I might not even fly.

If the Alula can fly at all (even poorly) in gale winds I might take it with me on this summer's mountain peak trips.

thanks

Yeah, the Alula is what you want. Carry a little tape with you and the Alula while hiking. That is what I do. If you encounter a big wind, tape on a rock for ballast and the
Alula has a good chance of giving you a thrill. I have not tried it in a gale though, but the Alula and my radio fits in a day pack just fine. I have encountered nice slope winds that the Alua does just fine in. Chances are good you will too.

What do you consider a gale wind? I was flying my Alula in the back yard and it was gusting up to 40MPH it was doing alright but it defiantly could have used some extra weight.

I think the Alula would be a great bird to be able to throw in a backpack while hiking. I need to pick up another 1 or 2 Alula's I glued the current ones wings on so it doesn't come apart.

I think that is a perfect use for the Alula. I would suggest to buy the 3-piece attachment kit, it's 5 bucks more, but ifyour trying to fit it in a pack, it would most likely be necessary. I've found that you can fly it in just about any wind- As long as you know to keep that nose down.

The Alula is the best plane ever.
