1/4 scale ASK 14 motor glider - motor help
I finally test flew my ASK14 from Flying Scale Model plans. I think i need a larger motor.
I have a AXI 4130/20 with 15"-10 prop, 5 cell Lipo and a Jeti 77 opto ESC.
Plane weight is 11.8# with 1161 sq in of wing. (141" span)
The take off and climb out could use a little more power.
Options - go to 6 cell lipo or buy a motor with a higher Kv rpm ( AXI is 305 rpm / volt. I want to fly this plane at SEFF this year.

I'd stick with the existing motor.
You probably know this already, but just in case...
Power is voltage x current. If you want to increase power you need to increase one or the other. To increase voltage, move up to 6s. To increase current, go up a prop size. Definitely use a Wattmeter though to check the current stays within the motor's max limit, and also check your motor can handle 6s if you choose that option.
Hope this helps, and good luck.

It actually sounds to me as if you may be over-propped. It would be good to know what your actual current draw is with the setup you have now.

I have a 1/4 scale Tandem Falke at 14 pounds and 4 meter span, using the same prop as you but on 6 cells using a E-flite 60 and Castle controler; the climb is much more than adequate. As suggested above try 6 cells.
