My Nagoya NA-774 is omni directional, so if I mount it horizontally will I need to "point" it to where the plane is? If the tip of the antenna is pointing to my right for example and the plane head to there will the radio lose signal strength?

I want to make a dipole antena for my DragonLink that can be feeded by the botton part. like on the right image

Using the stock dipole feed by the center, I guess I´ll have a no good geometry if I place it like the image on the left.

And it will be a pain to take off some elapor to dig the cable and antenna.

Using an antenna like the one on the right image, I just drill a hole on the rudder, and everything goes straight.

I know the measures to built a 433 mhz antena, but dont know how to make the ground part.

Why not just let the ground side of the DL antenna dangle free. Works well for me.

Fabio - the hanging loose method is one of the suggested methods straight from DragonLink. This is documented on their website. Have a look.

For sport flying, and for shorter range electric FPV planes with no landing gear and limited space to mount an antenna, the antenna should be mounted as in the second picture, with the ground side just hanging below the fuselage. This will reduce performance a little bit, but not a whole lot. Unless you fly more than 10 KM away, you will never even notice the performance reduction you get from this free wire hanging in the wind. The wires I use to construct the antenna are very strong and flexible, so this installation will last many years on the tail of an electric plane like this without breaking, even though the wire drags along the ground in landing.

I was a little concerned with the RSSI% I was showing with the Rangelink stock dipole Rx antenna. So I built a IBC Turnstile to see if it would help. I set the RL Tx on micro mode an put the plane in the garage, I was getting 0-5% RSSI with intermittent Fail Safes. I switched to the TS and got a 15-20% RSSI, Sweet!!
I switched back and forth standing in different positions with the same consistent results. The I remembered HORIZONTAL..The RSSI%shot up to 29-30% Huge!! Back to stock 0%, IBCTS 30% Unbelievable. Can't wait to see how it translates in the air. Used 18 Gage and It sits on the tail of my Skywalker.

How critical is any particular orientation of tx antenna? ie is conventional straight up ok for most purposes?

Orientation for the turnstile isn't very critical because it is dual polarized with no nulls. Laying it flat is generally preferred, but not necessary.

Hi Alex sorry forgot to add in last question, is it best like in the crosshair build to measure the elements from the same point in the middle or from the first bit of exposed shield/middle conductor?
Also does it matter if the feed is only 5cms long?

Yes, measuer all points from the middle. a 5cm feed is ok.
