Phoenix Ice Lite 100 with Hacker A40-14s
I have a question about how to setup the Hacker A40-14s with the Phoenix Ice Lite 100A ESC.
In the instructions of the motor it says
-recommended Timing: 20-25°
-Switching frequency: 8-16 kHz
Due to Castle Link I can set up the ESC with the computer. In the menu there are the following modes possible:
-Motor Timing: Low(0), Normal(5), High (10) and Custom (0-20).
-PWM Rate: Outrunner Mode, 8kHz, 12kHz, 16kHz, 24kHz.
Now what should I choose? About the timing, are the numers meant in ° ? and about the Switching frequency, what exactly is the Outrunner Mode?
Thank you for your help! Originally I planned to do a maiden tomorrow...

Timing--low is always a safe bet and is usually the most efficient. However, more power can be had from higher timings, but often at the expense of efficiency. My experience is that is makes very little difference. Trial and error is often the best practice. I usually start at 0 degrees (the numbers in caste link are degrees) run it, check data, bump it up 5 degrees, check, repeat and choose what ever looks best to you. It would be helpful to monitor motor temp while doing so so you can analyze efficiency.
PWM--is the frequency of the energizing pulse. Higher frequencies are easier on the motor, while lower frequencies are easier on the ESC. This can be used if the motor or esc is generating excessive heat or running close to its limits. Increasing the freq will move heat from the motor to the esc and vis a vis.
Outrunner mode is and automatic PWM that I believe changes with RPM. I would assume it starts out fast and slows down with RPM, but it may be the inverse.
