I'm thinking.... if you let the feet hang just a bit, you could use them as small fins ?

something like this.

with the claws turned down for drag/stability. basicly I want it to work, not just fly.

Would be great to see one of these get the DD treatment. I have had a hankering for one for ages, but have kinda put it down the build queue a bit as vids I have seen indicate that the models are pretty limited in capabilities being basically restricted to just cruising around and, whilst looking cool, I think I would lose interest pretty quick.

Did you see this thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1344823 I am not sure if this one was a home brew or one of the RandR supplied ones.

There seems to be a fair bit of interest in pteros. If someone was to come up with a shortish sort of kit at a fair discount to the RandR ones (some of which are so unstable they need gyros to make them fly passably) there could be a reasonable market.

Here's a link to some of the RandR type models and some vids: http://ovirc.free.fr/Pterosaures.php

This should be good!

What about including a sound system for the occasional primordial screech!

It has been done: http://www.drfly.de/momo.wmv

Unfortunately Momo got a bad case of lock jaw which made the landing a bit tricky

This creative fellow has made models of a Banshee and a Great Leonopteryx. They are ornithopters: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...at+leonopteryx

I think the Banshee is a bit more doable as a ridge soarer from an aeronautics point of view.
