Beautifully worded. And a fine definition of one of the finer points of our Hobby.
Excellent!

I don't disagree... only a small few are more talented that way than others.
Take "the Alien" for example... and he does it with no dual rates.

But an aerial demonstration is one thing... just having fun and enjoying flying your model and testing your own limits is another... we can't all be pro pilots.

Gotta get in some flights before the Snow and weather hits. All I can fly is the stryker then. (It laughs at bad weather)

I used to fly before just on 3D rates with a good amount of expo.... but now with the evolution of planes, and considering that 3D has changed a bit... and now there is alot more precision mixed with it, i had to change and started using triple rates.... 3D Rates, Freestyle Rates (for fast precision point rolls and snap rolls ,etc) and Low rates.... it really helps to keep things smoother! But there is people that don't use any rates and still look super smooth! anyway whatever makes you feel the most comfortable is whats right in my opinion!

i was talking up medium rates years ago
- they are certainly handy to have as there is a really nice middle ground between 3d and super precision.

Where you can throw all the sticks hard without getting any surface stall- particularly off the elevator. Great for learning 3d stuff as things happen a bit slower and with more feel

I suppose a lot could also be achieved with expo tweaks too.

I was an 'expo guy', and never used rates on my aerobatic ships - until I mounted a cam to my PA Extra, and saw how my maneuvers looked from the cockpit. I immediately set up low rates for precision flying.
