Lathe

Hi Gary,

Your lathe looks like the cats meow. I wish I had known about it a couple of weeks ago as I was RVing down the Oregon coast and could have stopped in to have a look. As seems to be the normal problem with all modelers, my bench space for more tools is pretty limited. What is the overall dimensions of your lathe?

Norm

Slow progress

And I thought retirement was going to give me lots of time to work on my projects. HAHHH!!! Always some other thing more important. Getting the odd couple of hours in. I think these cranes are taking twice as much time to build as all the rest of the barge.

Update,

Now that the holiday season is over, can get down to some serious time on the barge. Got the forward crane finished and ready for primer and filling. Rest of deck got primered. Hope to start painting next week.

damn, wish I had poked in here sooner... I can damn near stand on my front porch and watch that barge dump

I'd offer to get any specific pictures you wanted... but my camera equipment probably isn't up to the task

very much looking good

Most of us will never see an actual log barge.

Yup. All and any pictures are appreciated. Still might be some detail I missed. Got some from Ulrich in Vanc. which really helped. A video of an actual dump at Ladysmith can be viewed if you Google Rivtow Hercules.

Getting there.

Got most of the painting done. Just have to install the boom cables and manufacture the log grapples. Next to build and install the ballast tank to allow the barge to tip and dump the logs. (Gotta go loggin' for logs too) Going to be a while before I can get any open water for sea trials. (-16 C here right now)

Gorgeous,... Maybe you can set it out in the snow, and build up a wake on the bow.
