I'm still trying to get contact details for any local clubs, there are apparently two but neither have details anywhere, what information I can find about them is very out of date

SWANSEA MODEL FLYING CLUB

Good God, some organisations are like ruddy antiques, it's like they haven't even begun to use electrickery yet

It's very cheap so I may just opt for that one for now and upgrade later ?

Not really in Swansea, I'm in Ystradgynlais, about 15 miles north of Swansea

Think I need to either move on to a CP asap as I'm struggling big time in light breezes with FP, can't really practice properly, trying to do figure 8's etc but it's hopeless, one direction it shoots off like a rocket and the other it just drifts upwards and backwards

Be glad to meet up soon as I have something decent to practice with in the wind

Why don't you pick up one of these little ones?
E-Flite Blade mCPx Unboxing (1 of 3) (8 min 32 sec)

It is good for beginners, and it can use any DSM2 radio, so you can use it to learn about radio programming, as it responds in all the normal ways just like a big heli. You can fly it in light breezes - I can fly it in some wind, but it's tricky.

Get either a 450 or 500. A 500 if you can afford to repair it (it's a little bit more pricey than the 450) or get a 450 which is an absolute dream to fly (i have the SE v2 450).

Feel free to drop me a PM and I'll help you as much as I can.. I was in the same boat as you not so long ago!

Let me know

Edit: You'll be needing a Transmitter too I take it? Edit2: I've had Phoenix Sim for quite a while before I bought the 450... It helped millions! I was doing stall turns (albeit not very tidy ones) on my first flight. The sim coupled with a heli will benefit you a lot. Like I said, drop me a pm if you need any help.
