I plan to order one tomorrow morning. I have previously scratch built a 52 in span Catalina and converted a GWS Islander to a seaplane.

When I built and flew the Islander conversion I thought that I would like a larger seaplane of similar configuration and the CL-415 immediately came to mind. Now this kit looks to be just what I want.

Thank you for posting the video. If I had not made the decision to buy before watching the video then I would definitely be buying it now. It flies a bit faster than my Catalina but not by too much.

This looks like it flies very similar to my Catalina, which is one of my favorites! I guess I now have something to spend my tax refund on!!

My 415 has been ordered. I chose the following to go in it.

TURNIGY Bell TR2410-12Y 1000kv Outrunner http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=6664

HobbyKing 12A BlueSeries Brushless Speed Controller http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11429

HobbyKing Micro UBEC 3A / 5v http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=15212

HXT900 9g / 1.6kg / .12sec Micro Servo http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...?idproduct=662

I plan to fit GWS 9 x 5 DD propellers which are the same diameter as the ones used in the Nitroplanes video. http://www.gwsprops.com/direct_drive.htm

Once the Model is shipped I will purchase some ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 3S1P 20C batteries from the Hobby King Australian warehouse http://www.hobbyking.com/unitedhobbi...dProduct=16753 It should take about 2 weeks for the kit to arrive.

I have looked on the Nitroplanes web site to try to find more details of the CL-415 but it is not yet on their site. They did list a similar size Catalina kit that is priced at US$44.95 http://www.nitroplanes.com/4chcararecoe.html

hello Kensp

i`m not shure your 12A esc will keep up ?
sometime its better to use higher amp in case of
motor upgrade (your motor description ask for 20ampESC)

i already had a twin power setup in stock to built something else...

motor: 40g 9$ http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo...4&productname=

i may use 8x4.7 prop to limit max amp to 18 ?

ESC : 18g 10$ http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo...8&productname=

this combo should provide 300w peak to retrieve that
ship from water...

I normally prop my motors to run at half the rated maximum Watts. Then they tend to last longer and run at higher efficiencies.

For my set up MotoCalc predicts a current draw of 8.3 Amps per motor, a 1:1 thrust ratio and a top speed of 2 1/2 time the stall speed. In my opinion to go for more performance will give lower efficiency and so waste energy. Going to an Amp draw of 12.5 amps will drop the efficiency of the motor from 70% down to 42%. The power losses will rise from 26 watts to 77.5 watts and most of these losses are caused by heat generation. So the motor temperature will rise from around 100 deg F to 400 deg F.
