Question
Motor system for an GP Electrostreak ARF

I'm looking for an economical/moderate cost power system for an old Great Planes Electrostreak ARF. I'm looking for something I can buy from Hobby King (cheap), running with lipo's and no gear boxes. Any recommendations?

I found several similar, older, threads but they all seem too dated and many of the recommended motors are either no longer available or they're out of my budget range.

A brushed 550 is over 200g, but this 120g motor should spin an 7x7 well on 3s: probably if you can shove your Lipos as far forward as possible, the CG should come out okay. 700W-875W is ridiculously optimistic... but 400W-500W (say, 45A on 3s) should be okay.

Here is one useful review:

Conducted a test on EMeter firm Hyperion Controller TURNIGY TRUST 70A SBEC, battery ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 3S1P 40C excellent battery is a very good current output is better than firms Turnigy
obtained the following results:
MAS 7x7 44A 16400
APC 8x6 64A 14100
MAS 8x7 57A 15000
JXF 7x6 37A 17000
JXF 8x6 46A 16100
JXF 8x8 55A 15000
APC 9x6 67A 14000
The result was a very good result this engine is the best in this series, I put 5 stars deservedly

Thanks! This sounds like what I'm looking for. I'll play with the weights and lipo location to see if I can get the CG right with this battery. Otherwise, I'll see if I can squeeze in a heavier/larger battery. I hate adding lead to balance CG.

Motor system for an GP Electrostreak ARF

I finally got around to mounting and testing this motor combination. I got 450 watts at 47 amps on an APC 9x6 folding prop which is very close to the predicted performance. The motor I got from Hobby King was of surprisingly good quality, in fact the motor might have been a bit TOO powerful. It ripped the motor mount during pre-flight testing, although I think the fuse was defective. I ordered another fuse to try again.
