My guess is she used to transport planes to the squadrons in WWII.
There are some amazing stories of women and other non-battle-fit pilots ferrying all sorts of fighters and bombers to the squadrons all around England and across the Atlantic. Often with pretty basic training. |

I remember a TV program sometime back about those girls with some recent footage of interveiws,so you are probably right
