PIXIM Camera!!!!!

690TVL Ultra WDR Pixim HD CCTV Mini Camera 3.7mm Pinhole Lens

US$106.50

Weight:0.18 LBS

Features and selling points:

1.Pixim's innovative SEAWOLF image sensor chip

This camera adopts innovative DPS (Digital Pixel System) image sensor and image processing technology. The sensor picks up details from each pixel based on hundreds of samples per video frame. vs CCD's limited exposures, to ensure wider dynamic range than is possible with analog CCD. The image quality is good.

2.Ultra Wide Dynamic Range

The captured wide dynamic range is 102dB typical and can reach 120dB maximum

3.High Effective Resolution:

Image resolution as high as 690TVL, offering enhanced horizontal and vertical resolution useable in existing as well as new CCTV systems.

4.Auto D/N shift mode

Adopt color mode in day, because the light is enough in day; at night the illumination is lower which need higher sensitivity and better image quality, so it change to B/W mode automatically.

5.High Class Menu Operation

6.3D-DNR

7.DNR (Digital Noise Reduction)

8.High Resolution, 690TVL-E

9.Power input: DC12V

10.3.7mm pinhole lens

11.With OSD menu, of great performance.

12.Suitable for FPV

Please provide a list of Lenses that you may recommend if we want to upgrade from the stock lense.

Also, we would be grateful if you could post some videos taken with this camera.

Cheers,

BB

I just came across this new camera today. I thought it was eye-catching the way their description has in RED letters "Suitable for FPV"... after all, their site is dedicated to SECURITY CAMERAS! I guess they see a significant amount of purchasing by RC nuts.

I'm curious how this Pixim Seawolf stacks up against the Sony Super HAD II. I notice that the resolution is up on the seawolf from 600TVL on the sony to 690TVL on the Pixim, but the Sony has better low light illumination (0.01 lux vs 0.1lux). The pixim may have better algorithms (at least newer) than the Sony for wide dynamic range, which might help if you are flying trying to see the ground if the sun is visible in the sky at the same time... but tests are in order to compare these two.

I would also caution against confusion between the Sony Super HAD I and the Super HAD II. The Super HAD II (in my experience) is better than the older Super HAD I. Here is a brochure on that.
http://www.sony.net/Products/SC-HP/c...eaturing52.pdf

SONY SUPER HAD
http://www.mintron.com/htm/q&a/htm/s...d%20camera.htm

Sony EXview (0.001 lux)
http://www.mintron.com/htm/q&a/htm/e...d%20camera.htm

Although it is touted as "the industry's proven greatest wide dynamic range (WDR) and accurate color performance at half the hardware build cost," the pixim is certainly more expensive than a super HAD ii camera. Also, note that anyone flying with goggles showing a max resolution of 640x480 will not even be able to appreciate the full resolution of 600TVL, let alone 690TVL. You will only see those gains if you have Headplay 800x600 resolution goggles, an external display screen with at least 800x600 resolution, or a DVR capable of recording at least 800x600.

I believe they are standard CS lenses, so any one you want will screw in to the mount, you will just need to adjust the focus yourself.

I contacted SecurityCams2000.com and they told me that this PIXIM Seawolf camera uses a CMOS sensor, not CCD. It has two selling points:
1) 690 line high resolution.
2) very advanced dynamic range.

It is also about 2 inches by 2 inches. Certainly not small.

Hi,

We can only sell the board camera. Means sell them without case.

Take PZ0482 for example, pixim camera with 3.6mm lens, board camera only without case, it is USD 101.5, USD 5 less than the case one. The size would be 38mm*38mm.

So, to sum up, the case pixim camera only USD5 expensive than the board one for these three kinda pixim cameras.

Best Wishes,

Pixim Seawolf Resolution

Hi,

Someone commented below that the higher 690 HTVL effective resolution of Pixim's new Seawolf chip cannot be seen in 640 x 480 displays, but that is not correct. The new higher resolution capability of Seawolf improves the vertical TV lines so the video output viewed at 640 x 480 has visibly higher resolution than SuperHAD II CCDs as well as our older Orca image sensors.

Videos captured with Seawolf can be found here (look for the clips marked as New):

Has anybody tried one of these cameras on an FPV ship yet? I'm curious how well the signal is broadcasted & received.

I have the cased cam didn’t see there was an uncased version which is a shame as I was going to remove the heavy metal case from the one I have. but it holds the lens over the sensor so if removed would have nothing to screw the lenses in I have tried it in the garden and seems good not had it on the plane yet as it pushes my c of g to far forwards. My only concern is how it handles vibration as it’s a cmos sensor could suffer from wobble vision but then again if the plane is setup well vibration should not be an issue.

Little misty results with 690TVL

Hi,

I am new to the FPV area and recentally mounted the 690TVL
http://www.securitycamera2000.com/pr...-OSD-Menu.html

on Multiplex FubCub

I got little misty images as you can see in:
FPV from FunCub canopy at Gur-Arie airfield (2 min 1 sec)

What could be the reason and can it be solved via camera parameters?

Thanks,

Ron.

Did you try focusing the lens? How the hell can you see where you're going? All I can see is about 90% sky!
