Nacelles:

The nacelles build real easy. They are all tab and slot alignment and build quick. After you complete the nacelle you remove the wing cutouts.

You can then test fit the nacelles on the wings and slide over to alignment marks. I will post more pix after the wing center section dries.

Hatch and Wing update:

I am using Ultracote Park Light to cover my Commander and covered the nacelles first before gluing to the wing.

Here are pictures showing the alignment marks on the bottom of the wing for the nacelles. You just slide the nacelles into place and glue.

Here are some pictures of the Commander assembled. It weighs 11 ounces here with both servos, motors, props and spinners.

It is looking great. Can't wait to see this in the air. May have to add this to the want list.

Here's some pix of the Commander all covered.

As it sits it weighs 17 oz. with everything less the wires from the motors.

Definitely a fun build! Thanks Don at House of Balsa!!!

I finished the wiring and decals.

The weight ready to fly is 17.7 ounces. I wanted to share a couple of pictures on balancing the Commander. House of Balsa shows a location at the center of gravity to mark and drill a hole for a small screw eye, screw in the eye and balancing is easy. Once you adjust your battery to achieve balance you can mark the location in the fuse and remove the screw eye. The nice thing about this way of balancing is you see lateral balancing as well as your normal fore-aft.

I am ready to fly as soon as our Michigan weather cooperates! Very windy and cold today, better luck next weekend!

Wow, what a great looking model and build! I hate hand launching, any provision for landing gear?

Although it is a great looking plane, I don't see the LG. A plane this beautiful needs landing gear.

It does have four 1/2 inch wheels on the battery hatch that can be used on blacktop. See post 13. The House of Balsa crew had been using that feature on their blacktop strip. They have their helper hold the tail, run up the motors, then release for a ROG of sorts....

I think the lack of gear will make it look better in the air and don't believe it will be hard to hand launch. The wing loading is 14 oz/sq ft. I think keeping it light outweighs add another few ounces to add gear. I hope to provide more details when/if our weather improves

I spoke with Don from House of Balsa last night and they will have kits available in about 3 weeks and the price will be 89.95 direct from House of Balsa.

The Commander flies....

We had really nice weather here yesterday and I put four flights on my EC. It flies really great and quite fast, most of the flying can be done at 1/2 throttle or so. It has that "twin" sound. Lynn Morgan handled the hand launches and they were a non event. I needed just a click or two of elevator trim before I was doing cuban eights, roll, loops, etc. It shows really well in the air.

Amazing what old can motors can do, great performance.

I hope to post some in flight pictures from my flying buddy Ken Myers later today....
