It's very big by the sound of things - 8.9 on the scale

Story is just panning out here - north east Japan is the epicentre - this is a very large earthquake indeed and a large tsunami is more than likely.

The quake itself is relatively shallow, but the big wave seems to be causing the damage.

Big oil refinery, (as described), burning in Ichihara(sp?). I imagine this will kick start higher oil speculation.

There is one video that is pretty horrid looking burning debris, other debris that almost looks like firewood, mixed in with boats and cars, sometimes crushing a house, making progress inland.

This is a massive event. The tsunami that hit Japan was 10m high and the aerial shots of it crossing the coastal area was particularly shocking, in just that small area thousands of vehicles and fragmented buildings were swept away. The casualties will be in the thousands.

In addition to Japan, I'm wishing the best of luck to everyone around the Pacific Rim, especially Hawaii and New Zealand.

The worst was watching the debris in the wave. Dozens of cars, with people, families in them.

My God...

EVALUATION
A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG
COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION
SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.
A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE
CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD
COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE
INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS
CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST.
TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT
RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI
WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL
QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE
CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED
BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH
TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD.
THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS
0307 AM HST FRI 11 MAR 2011
MESSAGES WILL BE ISSUED HOURLY OR SOONER AS CONDITIONS WARRANT.

The airborne video just on showed the tsunami advancing across the land, engulfing everything, and just about to take out a highway with vehicles racing along it. Those cars in the debris are not unoccupied.

I am hearing a lot of those buildings are farm buildings.

Geeze ---they are getting beat over there, those poor people

We are at least 12 ft above sea level, and almost a half mile away.

They are using bull horns to get the people out of the beach frontage area.

When it goes by Guam (pretty soon) ...Hawaii will pretty much know what our story is going to be.

Poor Japan ...ouch.

But what about my stuff!!!!

I'm up against a hill. I can easy walk up 50 more ft of elevation in a few seconds.
I'm thinking they will put people on my lawn and I will be giving out water and sleeping bags to kids.

But if I need to go I'll go thanks.

Still 4 more hours .....and the Guam news

Goodluck and Godspeed from Colorado Jimbo...

P.S. - Pack all your valuable stuff in your car NOW!!! RC planes (tools & radio too), pictures, some clothing, etc. So you can drive to high ground and preserve some stuff if it's gonna flood.
