Do Fat Shark goggles have diopter lens slots?

I'm farsighted but can get lenses from reading glasses cheaply.

It looks like Fat Shark 5.8 GHz and 2.4 GHz 2010 and Base Edition goggles all have the slots for Fat Sharks optional negative diopter lenses. Is this correct?

The plan is to remove the positive lenses from dollar store glasses and fit them so they slide into the slots on the Fat Shark goggles.

If this works it will be the solution to the goggle problem for me.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Mike

Yes, they have diopter slots. I don't know if "dollar store lens" will work. I can confirm that the optional negative diopter lenses at hobby king work fine.

I know I'm only answering half your questions. Sorry.

That is indeed the answer. All I have to do is make the dollar store lenses the same size and shape as the factory lenses, while preserving the inter pupil distance and it should work.

The only other complication is that factory negative lenses are thicker at the edge than in the middle but the positive lenses are thicker in the middle than at the edges.

Thanks for the help.

I have the Dominators and the optometrist told me I needed +1 diopters in both eyes...when I asked him which I should get.

Fat Shark diopters are all + diopters... will this make the image worse. I can see it fairly well now...and without my glasses , I can see fairly well at a distance... but my glasses clears it up just a bit.

I feel certain they are... however if you are careful to measure the exact size and transfer it to the dollar store glasses with masking tape on front and back....leaving the tape on until all is done and all minor size adjustments are finished ..then peel it off for a super clear lens.

You'll want to use something like a little bench jigsaw to make the rough cuts...then a bench grinder to smooth and adjust the final shape/size..

The dollar store glasses are perfect...just get the larger ones. I had my optomotrist tell me what diopter I would need after I explained to him the Fat Shark goggles and what they offered.

If the thickness is a bit tight, you can camfer the edges rather than grind the whole surface flat... works just fine and they slid in perfect.

Best 45 minutes to one hour of labor I had ever spent on goggles.

good luck...be sure to use the masking tape to protect the lens...
