Yes but I meant to say just the gear. I didnt replace the entire servo, just that plastic gear that I took off of the as2000L. Popped right on and has worked perfectly for 20+ flights so far without any modification.

Any ideas?
In the moments immediately following bettery connection be sure you quickly set the mcpx down on a level surface and dont move until the led on the 3 in 1 lights. During this time the gyros are orienting to level. If it is moved during startup it often confuses the gyro causing it to have the trim off when taking off.

new guy checking in....

Just checking in... just joined.. been flying since fall.. a friend gave me a cheap co-ax heli and I had a blase.. got a Blade Scout and still have fun.. got a Phoenix Sim... then picked up a used McpX (v1) and have been taking it slow. Waiting on warmer (less windy) weather.

OK, so flying the Msr for almost a year I should have remembered about letting the gyros calibrate on power up. Thanks for the reminder. That is what was causing some flights to be much easier than others and inconsistency in stability. Wow, I can't believe I forgot about that.

Also, I went outside and it was calm enough and it makes such a difference to have some room. Ok, so it did achieve a fairly sane hover!

This heli will fly in winds over 10mph. Dont be afraid to take it out even if its a bit windy

Yep, it was breezy but I have really noticed watching CP pilots that wind is not much of an issue and even though I am struggling the wind didn't seem to be a factor.

The big issue is hard surfaces. I want to get out to a grassy area for sure. I put a little crack in the tail boom because I came down a little hard on the cement.

Is there a better tail boom material for this heli? It is hollow and maybe for balancing it needs to be hollow but it is quite fragile and vulnerable to beginner mistakes.

Solid 2mm carbon rod works fine. Much more durable.
You have to sand in a flat spot at each end for alignment and run the tail motor wires on the outside. Either wrap them around of use a few small pieces of heat shrink to hold them in place.

you can use 2mm solid carbon fibre rod and its a good idea to make it a little longer than stock

What are the first things to start to wear out in the MCP X? Mine seems to getting a bit more jerky when flying and there seems to be a bit of slop in the blade holders like feathering shaft is not quite tight enough. What do I need look at?

The dampers for sure wear out, make sure your feathering shaft screws are still tight.

My mcpx has started flying irratically. It will change direction while in a steady hover without input. I must continually correct to.I believe it is a bad ele. servo. What are your thoughts?

I can answer my own question. I was pretty sure of my diagnosis so I went to the LHS and purchased an elevator servo. Results, problem fixed.

Cracked main shaft can do this.
Mine cracked on one side right where the screw goes through for the shaft collar.

Also make sure the main gear has not slipped down.
