Speaking about the Fox Rocket .09 engines, here is one of mine.
I think they ran pretty good at the time.
I still have a unused one as shown in this pic here:


Of course Fox had some cute .049 and .07 engines way back then too.
Here is a Fox .07 Comet engine circa 1959, from when he was providing engines to Comet for their RTF planes. The fuel tank was mounted for a side mount engine position.

How around 1965 Fox .15 RC too? Or a 1958 one shown below. Both still new.
I liked where the instructions stated you could get 30,000 rpms out of it too.
It just used a primitive sliding exhaust baffle for a throttle back then. The actuators at the time used to RC a plane with were relatively weak.

Check out the price tag on the box.










Here is a old 1958 edition of a Fox .15 engine too. it is still considered a NIB engine as well.

As we seem to be enjoying our FOX's at the moment, here's something special - yes, I know its past Christmas, but maybe our European friends have not seen this before. Earlier, I mentioned the World's #1 FOX fanatic Bill Mohrbacher, and late last year Bill and his good wife, sent this out to fellow collectors. It originally appeared in Model Airplane News in the early 1950's, and I think it captures that moment in a collectors life - when he gets his very first engine ! Can anyone relate to this ? BOB

Earl, love the little 15 - perhaps the instructions were for the hot version !Actually, didn't they come in an X , XX and XXX model, the last one being the stove hot one ?

fox just had a X version. You special ordered the aluminum piston, heavy duty rod and special single ball bearing crankcase.
When Fox changed to the new design from the old 1958 steel cylinder to a drop in cylinder, they were putting 15X on all of the boxes. You couldn't really tell a BB hybrid 15X from the bushing version from the outside. To keep the crankcase size small, they used a ball bearing with no inner race, the balls ran directly on the crankshaft.

The old baffle .15 engines were made up into the 1980's, at least until all of the molds wore out.

Extremely interesting thread!!! It really brings to me lots of memories. I have at the present time a Webra Speed .61 purchased in 1975 in perfect working condition. Never repaired, never crashed. It has been in over 10 different airplanes and at the present time is flying a VESPA pattern plane of 1967 designed by Dario Brisighella and published in American Aircraft Modeller. My Vespa is over 10 years old and going strong!! Futaba radio, monokote cover, all balsa and ply, no retracts. The Webra has the original piston, ring etc. and the power is amazing. One secret: NEVER use synthetic oils. Only Castor and any engine will last a lifetime. But Webras were particularly durable and extremely powerful and well made, like a Porsche. So sorry that this company went out of business recently. By the way, is Clarence Lee still around?

1960 engine prices for Cox, OK and Forester

Nice to see all the older glow engines.
For the 1960 prices, here is a copy of Cox, Forester and OK adds.
This is when I started buying magazines, one of my originals.
Sorry, but the paper has all gone yellow.

The French Micron 1,5 cm3 (.09 cu.in.) of 1960 is a very compact engine. Here it is, compared with the 0,8 cm3 Webra Piccolo and MP Jet 1,0 cm3 diesels.
