First time 16 years old kid with his new DLG

Hi Guys

I would like to share with you our last event on Saturday.
It was phenomenal day, lots of sun, little wind to cool of the high excitement level.

But still it was something else that day… why?

We ware 10 guys with DLG's only
2 x FW5
1 x SalPeter
1 x Steigeisen
1 x TS1
and
5 x New TopSky 2 Viper

I'd like to tell you about a young boy, a 16 years old that it was his first day with DLG.
After guidance him throughout the building process and the fine setup of his Turnigy9X TX ( BTW it doesn't fits this kind of glider due to lack of vital mixing).

We manage to set the TX up minimally in order for him to practice a bit, till buying a new adequate TX.

I post his father video taken from his mobile end edited by Nadav the young and very talented pilot that on his first time learn very quickly how to ,launch to a reasonable height and even catch it landing.

Enjoy
Gil

Very nice video and images! I have a Turnigy 9X as well, and have been wanting to get a DLG. What kind of mixing is it that is missing?

For DLG to use ailerons as flaps you need a computerized transmitter that understands what flaperons are.. Or you need to use mixes the mix with one servo in reverse the flaps on the aileron channels.. the details I dont know, sorry.

Great piece of video, and a great-looking flying field (I don't get to see green very often).

Where do you guys fly?

Yours, Greg

Instead of new radio, what about putting in the ER9x firmware?? Fairly easy to do, if somewhat confident with soldering onto the board in the Tx. The firmware is great, so good to use and the mixing is out of this world easy to do. You can even set the voltage at which the low battery alarm goes off at. I've obviously done this, I did it so that I could change the channel output to the same as JR, in order to use it for trainer radio.

Highly recomended, will save the young guy a fair bit of cash as this will bring the 9X to better than my JR 378 at least

The flying field is in Arsuf resort in Israel.

I also have a 9X, but couldn't set it up to work my DLG, so i have bought an Aurora 9 and happy since.

I heard about the ER9x modification, since it was made by an Israeli guy that is writing in our local forum.

I'll contact him asking if it is possible to have all basic mixing needed to fly DLG's.

Hi Gil,

Yup, the ER9X FW can do all that's needed by a DLG.
You also do not need to solder anything anymore: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1338412
