OK so I had 5 really good flights with the Venom yesterday in the first flyable weather we've had so far this year, and a flying buddy test flew his for the first time also. That's three we have in our club now, all flying well. I did have one issue on the dreaded "one last flight before I go home", the fan noise suddenly changed and got louder, so I landed immediately and found one of the screws that hold the motor in the fan housing had come out, luckily still in the fan duct. There is one small nick, about 1mm in the TE of one of the fan blades, but the (stock) fan still balances OK, so hopefully it's OK to still use it?
Anybody else still flying their Venom? |

It seems you can't trust a pre-assembled fan (from the factory). I have always taken the whole assembly apart then reassemble using locktite. Had a number of those freewing fans in other models but switched to the Changesun type some time ago. A small nick in the trailing edge could be carefully trimmed out with a knife to remove any stress riser then rebalance as necessary.
My Venom is waiting for the snow to stop, but will fly again soon. One of my favorites. |

I'm using the X-flight combo
http://www.x-flight.com.hk/index.php...&more=&lang=en It is cheap so be prepared to reassemble everything. You will also have to glue in the motor bearings as they don't fit tight into the motor and will spin. After dynamic balancing, I'm very happy with it and on 6S provides plenty of power. For the ESC I use the Red Brick 125A ESC with 5A UBEC built in. Also cheaply put together requiring some reassembly to insure the heat sink is not in contact with the motor wire solder joints. Also you have to set the timing LOW and pwm 16 for this outrunner. |
