Brainstorm RC kites Macaw

A while back I purchased from Tower hobbies a Brainstorm
RC kite called the Macaw. It is ready to fly and has a 74 inch wingspan.
It flys with elevan mixing and wing warping
I thought the price was reasonable for a RTF rc kite
The radio does not have a lot of range
since it is a GWS 2.4 mg park flyer radio.
I replaced the radio it came with a spectrum and now
I do not have to worry about range.
All in all it is a good flyer and I get compliments on how
nice looking the RC Macaw is.
their website is rcwildwings.com
This bird has a nice glide also.

Yeah, it's all here in this thread. It was moved from the ornithopter threads and put in the electric flight area. Just a couple of days ago, my brother and I just discovered that RC Groups has created thread for the Rc Kites... that was a unexpected surprise!

These are very relaxing birds to fly.

Just picked one of these up yesterday. LHS was letting it go for 50.00. Plan to change to brushless and lipo. Anyone have pictures of mounting a brushless on it. I have lots of different outrunners. I assume it does need a good size prop for thrust (the stock is a gws 10 x4.7). Open to all suggestions. Thanks.

Hey Stringfly, what LHS was that?! I bought for about $139.00 a year and a half ago.

Yeah I will try and email you what I did. I can't post pics with my iPhone. Brushless is better.

Just my local hobby shop. Last one he had. They were just to pricey to sell much and I'm a very good customer....
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

You can use a separate stick mount and cut off the existing one. That's what I did.

Maiden flight stock.

Flew it today stock to see how it would do. It did just fine. Yes,,, the roll function is way to sensitive but easily fixed by moving the pushrod connectors in on the servos arms. Climbed out just fine and would maintain altitude at just over 1/2 throttle. No radio issues but I kept it in to about 500 ft. This is a nice colorful bird so I would fly it close in anyway. Have a kite festival next weekend that will fly it at if the wind is not to strong. Wind was light this morning, about 3 to 6 mph. It does have a nice gentle glide even with the stock 7 cell Nimh battery. Flight time was over 8 minutes which surprised me with the 2/3A Nimh 1100 pack. I did cycle the battery a couple of times before flying. I liked the pitch control over using only throttle for climb and decent even though it is soft and you have control with motor off. Will do nice fast rolls nose down. Just opposite and up and it pulls right out like the video.
May do brushless later on when brush motor wimps out but for now it's ok for lighter wind flying. Very pleased

Glad to hear that you had a ball with your maiden! This is a smooth flying bird...very predicable.

I love wind. When it is warm enuff, it inspires me. I don't like avoiding it. So, I put a brushless on my parrot. More windy, heavier the battery for more stability.

I personally like to almost speck it out and then cut the power. Like you said, it glides really well. I just want a bird that soars like a turkey vulture..that's all. That's ....me, of course . Everybody's different.
Stringfly, if you can, please take some videos? That would be great!
Thanks

Here is my turkey vulture Depron version I did a few years ago and my foam eagle that I do like to speck out. At last fun fly we had 3 of the eagles up with blackbirds going nuts and attacking.
