Adding an external Gyro to a Fixed pitch , it is possible ?

Hi guys,
I’m Fabio a new italian member of this wonderful forum but not new in the RC heli world
This is my page on youtube :

http://www.youtube.com/user/Fabio4408?feature=mhum

I usually fly with the Innovator MD 530 ( 450 class ) and a Hughes 300 ( 400 class ), you can see on my page many videos of these two models
I had also a Kestrel 500 SX and I enjoyed a lot, upgrading it
You can see what I did on these two additional video here :

RC Heli - Nine Eagles - Kestrel 500SX - Fabio - Part 2 (7 min 17 sec)

RC Heli - Nine Eagles - Kestrel 500SX - Fabio - Part 3 (8 min 23 sec)

I start to have problem when I decided to leave the fuselage of the Kestrel 500 SX and starting from the skeleton build on, a fuselage of the B 47 g.

I made a first video during the construction, and how you can see so far it was everything ok :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA2HbZ8yi20

, but going ahead with the work , the overall weight increase from the original 185 grams to the actual 260 grams.

The problem I am having right now, and I cannot resolve is that, I’m not more able to find a balance between the two engines and thus the heli is not keep the tail hold, with the original tail motor I could not contrast the main rotor , then after I burned 3 tail engines...I change it with the most powerful tail motor from honey bee Fp 2.
Now this engine is too powerful and pulls the tail in the opposite direction, I also changed the original nine eagles receiver with the last black receiver using the new technology “ ez bind “ but having the same problem , I changed it again with a RX2423A Walkera 3 in 1, but the problem remained, as you can see from this little video :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AaOJazeLj0

Now after a lot of frustations, I’m thinking to add and external Gyro and change if it is the case the receiver unit with a Spektrum ,

Can some of you help me to resolve this matter, explaining wich can be the most simple and definitive solution to adopt?

Thank you very much for any kind of help

Best regards and greetings from Holland

Not an easy task with a tail motor heli.

Heaps of related info here:

Not sure how many cells that heli runs on but I would suggest, for ease of getting a fast enough tail esc, that you run 2s. Then you can use the Plush 6A, Thunderbird 9 etc for the tail.

You need a separate ESC for the tail motor and some trick wiring. Both the HeliMax Axe CP and EFlight CP Pro had external gyro upgrade options. The wiring diagrams can be found if you Google search for the owners manuals.

thank you for your answer

I still have some doubts,

I need a new receiver like the one used from the E-Flite Blade Pro ?
or it is better go straight to a Spektrum like the AR6100?

I have to connect the E-Flite Gyro ( wich model will be the best for my case ? I notice that the Blade Pro and the Blade Sr use different model ) to the channel 4 and 5 of this receiver, where I have to connect the plug coming from the tail motor ? Directly to the gyro?

I need also an ESC or it is not necessary ? I still using the original brushes motor and not a brushless

thank you for your patience

then tail rotor into the gyro
Hi mdugas

the motor needs to be driven by an ESC ( electronic speed control ) , the gyro does not contain an ESC , so plugging the motor into the gyro would not work

note: the link and photos i posted , assume the the original 4 in 1 is being binned , and a standard RX is being used instead .

I have another question, do you think it can work anyway if I use a Spektrum RX 6100 and an a different Gyro........or only their kit will work properly ?
